I can't say that I experienced that in MGSV either

In a weird way the open world made it all feel smaller. Everything just happens to be going down in these two chunks of land.

It works in the first three games because you feel like you're infiltrating a single environment, rather than a million tiny environments a few minutes away from one another.

I tried some Apex Legends and it actually seems pretty alright, at the very least they seem to have put more thought into their take than 'get that fortnite money!!' A lot of my friends are primarily/only shooter players so I end up playing a lot of BRs just to hang out with them, and hopefully they take to this one instead of Ring of Elysium or just more PUBG.

Walking simulators/adventure games aren't something I usually enjoy, but the ones I do like are the ones with a lot of reactivity, exploration, and goofy subsystems to get you involved and doing poo poo while walking around.

A Kojima walking sim is liable to have a gently caress ton of all three of those things so I'm on board even if Death Stranding is a walking sim.

Boktai is the Kojima franchise that should return.

Same honestly - I think the only MP FPS I played with them that I actually really liked was Rainbow Six Siege and like basically all mp fps it would be better without headshots but personally I'm way more bummed by the death of RTS. I don't hate MOBAs, but more and more I really only enjoy competitive multiplayer in 1v1 games.

its definitely the same kind of movement, to create a highly crystallized version of FPS/RTS that accentuates the parts that people that are bad at those genres like while removing a lot of their direct barriers. like if you tremendously suck at most FPSes you're not going to get to play the game for very long, you'll spawn and immediately get killed by someone who understands the game/knows the map and how to control it/can aim. battle royale is a game where a bad person can run around for a little bit and pick up a gun, maybe kill someone but if they die then whatever you can just quit and start another game to run around some more. same deal as when all the FPSes moved to TDM over FFA, because in TDM bad players can generally stay alive a bit longer and it removes some small part of personal responsibility for winning and losing so you never feel too bad about yourself. BR just takes it to the most extreme

idk that BR is what kills the multiplayer fps though because they've been on a mostly downward trajectory for the past 20 years anyway. there pretty much hasn't been a massively popular one that's not a COD or battlefield, and any of them that were remotely interesting or unique practically no one played

On that note I think I'm going to play through some of the RTS campaigns I have. I got Company of Heroes, Total Annihiliation, Rome: Total War, World in Conflict and some other things I'm not remembering.

Related but I also really liked Warhawk, but those always seemed to have pretty decent playerbases.

I don't really watch movies and yeah I do feel that way about authors.

e: the reason franchises prove an exception is that they're usually the same company/dev setting out to make something similar to the thing I already liked. If they start a new IP, there's no guarantee my tastes will overlap with that dev's outside of the one spot where I know they do. Genre is a much more reliable guide to finding things that overlap with my tastes at that point.

walking sims rule but the genre has the highest chasm between boom and bust of any genre in gaming. a walking sim is either boring garbage or it's an amazing experience
