Apparently Bioware actually did fix a bunch of poo poo between the Anthem demo build and the early access launch version (with more fixes promised by the "real" launch a week from now). I haven't gotten to play yet but I'm hearing that performance is significantly better on both PC and consoles and that the mouse/keyboard controls are noticeably better, too. That's honestly kind of a surprise--I was expecting some bug fixes but generally similar performance to the demo weekends, so I'm pretty happy to hear that they weren't bullshitting about fixing things.

It would be interesting to trace how that became such a big thing, was it Game of Thrones

I didn't think they did, but this looks to be a copy of the game in another country, likely one that does not have good access to broadband to download 60GB games, in which case I can understand.

I bought a physical copy of Mafia III because it was cheaper than the Steam sale.

It was one of those ones that had actual discs instead of just a piece of paper. It came on 7 DVD-ROMs

i know there's a minority sect out there that does because when steam dies it'll take all your games with it which once upon a time seemed like a tinfoil hatted conspiracy nut attitude but with all this fracturing of digital download services who can say for sure. i just think of that kelley onion cartoon with the guy having dvds of everything and the mixed up backwards teen who streams everything.

it's also kind of a moot point since society has been trending towards going to a store and buying a boxed copy of a pc game usually just netting you a download code for whatever launcher these days anyhow

I used to collect a lot of DVDs until I realized that I never watched them more than maybe once a year, and usually way less frequent than that, so I got rid of most of them. I'm more OK with having books because there's some value to being able to just go to the shelf and flip through a book that I never did with DVDs.

When Netflix used to have a huge catalog of other studios' stuff I never really felt the effects of not having physical media, but now that all that is going away and it's harder to find older/more obscure things on streaming, lord help me I think I might start buying blu-rays

It wouldn't matter for Steam games anyways because even if the disc has all the data on it there's still like 5kb on Steam that's needed to activate the game itself.

Same thing for console games now as well. If you buy Spyro you're not playing that game until you download the rest online.
