Mostly the part that amuses me is that the Looney Tunes are the Fremen in this analogy.

basic hitler posted:Most producers are guys who cut a check or otherwise have a stake in the film production. Brian Herbert is a dumb fuckstick ransacking his father's legacy to boost his own sad lit career; but his taint probably isn't going beyond an advisory/note giving place. I think so too. I don't know the novel sale numbers but I say the original novel sold far more than any of the sequels. I think Brian is smart enough to not kill the golden goose. Ahh gently caress, who am i kidding, Cybertrax is going to appear in the postcredit screen, right?

I want fremen to look the part too honestly but yeah if he's worried about terrorism stuff the fremen arent really a good place to advocate diversity politics. He's not even wrong but God what an ill thought out article.

I caught up on like 2000 posts in this thread over the last couple of days. I was glad to see another goon pick up the Folio Society edition of Dune. Centipede Press is (eventually) doing the series. Here's some art: (Edit: First image is not for the CP edition, my bad. Its cool so I'm leaving it.) Like I understand Fremen borrow a lot from arab-Bedouin cultural tropes and some phraseology (among other cultures too) but its superficial at best meant to give the fictional sci-fi race more character and still be somewhat relatable. They aren't literally Islamic.

~ 230th, 10191 is only the After Guild portion. Herbert gives "110 centuries" between "mankind's [first] movement through deep space" and the Jihad, and the Guild is founded ~200 years after the start of the Jihad. Debatable whether the "movement through deep space" has happened in our actual history yet, if you assume it hasn't that pushes the dates further in to the future. edit: this is from the appendices of the original novel. BIG MEATY SHITS posted:102nd i think, unless their calendar is post bj (lol) It starts in the year 10191, but I think they measure that from the formation of the spacing guild (i don't remember ifthat detail is the originals, or not). Who knows when the guild formed. So, somewhere in the 102nd, or further.

And in the sequels, the pilgrimage to Arrakis from all over the Empire is known as the Hajj.
