I'm sure it turns out that's part of the dystopia but I've been burned a few too many times in that regard. Only if you really care about the other big influence on YA dystopia. Sometimes it's a bad thing that a work is lessened by continuing to exist in a world it helped shaped, but sometimes it just gives a pass on reading something lovely unless you really care/are being really thorough.

Katt posted:What if our cartoons are just as bad and we don't realise it. Thing is even if you accept the idea that our political views are on the same level, Bors is still technically more competent than Garrison. Garrison's cartoons are a mess of labels and images slapped together. He rarely crafts a message that is as effective as what Bors does. The only reason Garrison gets any clout is because the rest of the Rightwing field is so loving dire when it comes to cartooning.

Katt posted:Well besides Hitler probably not that many. Demonizing Hitler to the point where you don't consider him human anymore hampers the idea that Hitler was very much just another human with his own flaws and posits the idea that it can't happen again because the literal Antichrist hasn't been born yet. It's dangerous, because it can happen again and it might even already be happening, but people are in denial because millions of people haven't died yet. And somehow it isn't a problem until we get to that point.

Lightning Knight posted:AGC, but I can’t get over how loving lame Rall is that he called Reagan’s hair “x-treme.” 2024 read-along: The Therapist Mmkay. Rall, despite being extremely wealthy, goes to the company therapist, who will report everything that he says to HR. Rallston reveals the following: He doesn't wanna gently caress anymore, too much porn. He doesn't believe in love. He's broken up with someone named "Kathy" in the past. He still believes in "real relationships." The therapist seizes on Kathy and Rallston gives a third explanation for why he's not getting laid- he's overworked at his cushy job where he can take a break to join a race riot or rewrite history on his lunch hour. This joins "not interested in women / questioning his sexuality" and "too much porno" in Rall's desperate attempt to explain why his brilliant, charming, funny, motivated, driven, handsome main character isn't constantly getting laid. Remember that Rall has a purpose to all of this: he needs to make Rallston's affair with Julia important to him, so he needs to make sex something Rallston thinks of as special, despite him being a sex machine who gets eyefucked by all the hotties, and the society he lives in having no real problem with people banging on the reg. Anyway, Rallston didn't sever with Kathy, and he blames his parents, and her parents, for them breaking up. Basically they had to because their parents were divorcees. Which is a loving weird tack for him to take, really. Anyway, they're still loving, and that's a good thing, even though we haven't seen her. She probably lives in the Cana part of Ralltopia. I'm not exactly sure what the point of this one was, apart from introducing a whole new batch of obvious inconsistencies into "not into girls and too much porno to want to bang, still actively loving on the regular" Rallston. Christ, I forgot about this sequence. Rall sits his main character down to bare his soul to us and all he does is whine fake-deep buster poo poo about relationships not being real anymore, maaan.

I would nominally agree with this but Rall works for Sputnik International so I know the actual point of this comic is "vote third party and flush your vote down the toilet for your idealogical purity."

This whole book so far just feels like random vignettes, nothing really attaches to any kind of structure. Every issue gets resolved in 2 pages. Rallston's in a race riot, riot gets broken up. Rallston's being followed maybe, Rallston calls the cops on that guy. Rallston's #racist coworker bugs him, Rallston talks to him like nothing's wrong. Rallston can't gently caress, nah it's cool he slays mad puss on the reg no strings attached. All set to the backdrop of the most inconsistent, half-hearted dystopia ever. You could be posting all of this completely out of order and I wouldn't know the difference because nothing builds to anything! It's cool and good that Benny G drew a rope around Maxine Waters' neck.
