I think people really overstate how significant the relationship stuff in FE is. Awakening was successful out of the gate and it wasn't exactly marketed as a dating sim, and people actively disliked how they contorted themselves to shoehorn the exact same systems in Fates.

Yeah, the whole 'kids time travel back from a dark future to to when their parents just started getting hooked up' plot element very easily allowed the kids to appear plausibly within the story. What made me decide to not get fates was that every character design seemed to be reused, and the 'hyperbolic time chamber daycare' to get the kids really did not make sense at all.

Yosuke's annoying and is not growing on me like Ryuji did, Chie's voice actor sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me, Yukiko's got even less personality than Makoto, and I like Kanji but this game does not seem to know what to do with his sexuality and I don't see that ending well. The humor just isn't doing anything for me, and I'm not really excited to find out how many more lame and tired fat jokes they make, or to see just how far into the ground they run this awful Chie--and-Yukiko-can't-cook bit. Put that all together with clunkier mechanics than P5 and procedural dungeons that are a lot duller than P5's dungeons, and... I think I'm gonna set this one down and go back to hoping that P5 gets ported to Switch. P4 does have one thing to its credit: Nanako's a sweetheart, and yes I will spend time with her this evening, I don't even care that it's not going to rank up my S. Link.

Question about Anthem: Probably my absolute least favorite thing in video games is inventory crafting hoarding where you need a CPA license and a zillion years experience with Excel (think Monster Hunter World and ____ Souls) Is Anthem like those games, mildly similar (like Dead Space and Prey), or completely straightforward shooter like Halo? Every review I've watched talks about upgrading your gear but doesn't mention if it's the kind of thing you just pick up or it's hours of grinding for rare elements to use in a crafting system. TIA.
