Cerebral Bore posted:Jamal's character writing keeps being completely on point, yeah. What I really like is that even when a character, in this case Jamal's dad, is clearly and obviously in the wrong and is unambiguously portrayed as such you can still see where he's coming from and the reasons behind why he acts the way he does. Shows that the author actually cares and puts in the effort.

Jamal is extremely good so far, and I wish there was a book I could pick up. For lack of that, I might pitch in a bit to his Patreon.

Yup, Martha is absolutely having a manic episode. Great job, Tommie!* * Not that Tommie could prevent the manic episode, but she should really be a bit more worried and not going 'awww, of course I'll take this dress! ' I suppose if Martha is just diagnosed with depression and not bipolar Tommie might not be looking out for a manic episode, but I'd assumed she had enough psychiatric training to make her a good candidate to be a home nurse for someone who's specifically mentally ill.

Buni Rhymes with Orange Pros and Cons Better-selling, surely? Retail Edge of Trampling Is that a baby or a miniature Bill Cosby? And this strip marks three years of Edge of Adventure. Maybe Sam will develop a personality one of these years! Maybe we'll finally discover Dr. Clawburg and his underwater laboratory!

howe_sam posted:My god, each and every one of those strips is perfection I can't help but think, if Kraven knew more about what had happened, he'd have a pretty solid "Spider-Man broke into the museum, stole the tiara, then broke into my room to plant it and attempted to frame me" scheme. Up until Kraven decided to murder Spider-Man live on stage, I thought that was where this was going.

Knowing what a terrible person Lynn is makes the smug dismissal of the kid's idea even worse. It's reminding me of the Luann strips posted a while back of the aunt and uncle freaking out over a kid deciding what colors to pick for her room. Haifisch posted:The Amazing Spiderman I'm just waiting for MJ to go, "Guys, please, you were both useless just now." PetraCore posted:It also seems to me to fit the thing I've noticed in real life where people who grew up in abusive environments are trying their best to not replicate the abuse they endured, even if it's normalized for them, but without outside help it doesn't always work out... quite as intended? Like, the impression you get is Jamal's dad grew up with a physically and probably emotionally abusive dad, but he never wants to hit Jamal, but he still has trouble admitting he's wrong when he did gently caress up. The additional context shows you how he's trying to do better than his own father, and is succeeding because Jamal is secure enough to call him out, but at the same time it doesn't excuse his gently caress up. The fact he's got some self-awareness about that is honestly pretty great and makes him an even more rounded character. The author does a really great job with the characters. maltesh posted:I can't help but think, if Kraven knew more about what had happened, he'd have a pretty solid "Spider-Man broke into the museum, stole the tiara, then broke into my room to plant it and attempted to frame me" scheme. Honestly, I'm confused what Kraven's plan was if he had succeeded in his plan to commit murder on-stage. "Oops, sorry officers, poor Spidey just couldn't handle the pressure, amirite?"
