Marvelous had a wrestler today who was a fat Onita cosplayer and he does tinsel rope death matches and has a bat that the audience hum when he is holding to simulate the sound of an electric bat. All the companies that had Onita booked should book him instead IMHO.

I mean, I get the 'squared circle' gag for the logo, but it's 1000% 'We're Now Owned By A Web Company So We Must Look Like We Provide a SaaS Service'. And the loss of the Emerald Green is a loving shame. EDIT: It looks WAY better in the context of a promo image.

The issue is that it’s going to look so dated in a few years, like most logos that are just words in the current cool style. The old one was of its time clearly but you had a lot of symbolism in it plus I think that it’s distinct enough to work long term. This will just look outdated in five years and they’ll just have to rebrand all of the time.

The old logo looked over-designed in a early 2000s sort of way so I get wanting to change it. But what they’ve gone to doesn’t carry over much heritage or scream “NOAH” really at all. That it looks like porn production companies is just adding insult to injury. It’s an okay logo but it’s anonymous and doesn’t connect with what NOAH is at all.

seems fine, people in general have bizarre overreactions to branding changes and i think it's based on a fundamental fear of unexpected change but there's very little remotely offensive about that logo and is considerably less easily dated than the previous one (protip: any time you do something that's meant to hearken back to old styles of doing things, the understanding of what consists that old style actually changes over time and makes those designs tend to be more easily associated with the time they were created than the time they wish to emulate)

they're gonna use the green mat for the misawa memorial shows moving past the association with misawa and becoming the second biggest wrestling company in japan are the two stated goals of the new owners btw. don't know what that means for their big main event being the misawa cosplayer champion vs. misawa's most famous student but whatever

I think it broke down to DDT doing better in Tokyo but DG doing better outside Tokyo with Tokyo being so important as a pro wrestling city that it worked out pretty even. I think NOAH had the biggest non-NJPW/WWE attendance in Japan last year with 6,285 for the Marufuji show just beating out Peter Pan with 6,259.
