The president is complaining about saturday night live making fun of him again last night and has said the FEC needs to investigate the one sided political bias. SNL is in cahoots with the democrats and russians, according to Trump.

SNL was a re-run last night.

Alec Baldwin’s Trump shtick was funny for a few weeks in early 2017 but now it’s just kind of tired, and the funniest thing remaining is that it continues to piss Trump off so deeply.

Apparently Facebook has taken down the Christchurch attack video 1.5 million times already. I’ve decided that I’m going to deactivate my Facebook account, delete all my tweets, and unfollow every account that isn’t a dog or animal one. Outside of dog memes, I can’t think of a single loving way where social media has made my life better, but several where it’s made it more stressful. I’m not sure that human beings are ready for such a degree of connectivity with one another, especially when there’s a profit motive involved.

I deleted my Facebook account about a year ago when I decided it was a net negative in my life. I don't miss it at all. It was easier to delete once I realized that I haven't spoken to any of the people I was still friends with "just in case" for over a decade.

I think that's a huge part of why he connects so well to his base. He's like the platonic ideal of a chud - fatter, dumber, more dementia, inherited more wealth, dodged the draft harder. He believes what they believe because he is one of them more than they are themselves.

It's a drat shame he's in Indiana where he has no higher electoral prospects than mayor. Too bad he's not in Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota where he could very plausibly win a statewide race.

I was sold the moment he said he wouldn't rule out balancing the supreme court. Decorum worshiping shitheads are not even letting conversations like that enter the national level discourse and it is exactly what we need to do; fundamentally accept that the right wing of the country is not acting in good faith, has not for decades and until they are politically crushed and removed from power enough to leave them no choice other than getting their house in order they cannot be treated as if they are.

semi-crossposting from the kiwi thread.

i'm really angry about all the surprise & shock & "this is not us" sentiment being expressed back home. i'm trying my best to get people to listen to muslim new zealanders about their experiences of racism in our country. a spokesperson from the islamic women's council of new zealand said they have been lobbying the government for years to respond to the threat of white supremacist violence.

quote:

Time and again, the media have asked me whether or not I was surprised that this attack happened in our country. I will explain to you why I was not surprised. I will try to convey to you my absolute blinding rage.
i've found a study from 2017 through a news article in radio nz, examining the relationship between islamophobia and news-watching.

guess what they found?

17.3% of (non-muslim, non-arab, non-asian) kiwis self-reported "high levels of anger towards muslims". this is loving us. don't allow any new zealanders to tell you otherwise.

I’d be ok with a Bernie/Mayor Pete ticket. If Bernie dies in office we have a good VP, or it spring boards him into 2024.

Assuming he's backed by someone willing to follow up on it I'd be pretty ok with Mayor Pete as VP attack dog out there saying the things that need to be said. Shove those kind of ideas in to the headlines and general conversation, lay the groundwork for execution by the top of the ticket. Would be one hell of a lot more optimistic looking situation than another eight years of "Better things aren't possible."

quote:

When he realised the mosque was being attacked, the 48-year-old ran towards the gunman, picking up a credit card machine as a makeshift weapon. After the gunman had run back to his car to get another gun, Aziz said he threw the credit card machine, ducking between the cars to avoid gunfire.

He then picked up a gun dropped by the attacker and pulled the trigger, but it was empty. “I was screaming at the guy, ‘come over here, come over here’ – I just wanted to put his focus on me,” Aziz said.

Aziz said the gunman went inside the mosque, and he followed, eventually confronting him again.

“When he saw me with the shotgun in my hands, he dropped the gun and ran away toward his car. I chased him,” he said. “He sat in his car and with the shotgun in my hands, I threw it through his window like an arrow. He just swore at me and took off.”
