I remember a russian drink that's gin and milk, mixed with other spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar). Spoiler, also bad.

KOTEX GOD OF BLOOD posted:some people even mix whiskey with sparkling water and call it a "high ball" as if this is something to be proud of rather than a practice which ought to be punishable by fifty lashes iirc japan does this a lot and they also invented anime so this should tell us everything we need to know about this drink in the spirit of this thread: i spent the entire day in a nice white wine region nearby drinking in the sun and now i'm heading home. a good day

fart simpson posted:im not going to look it up but i do not believe mountain dews primary ingredients are not water and sugar, in that order i looked it up and you're correct. concentrated orange juice is third, followed by citric acid then "natural flavoring". all of which is to say that calling oj the "primary" ingredient is a bit incorrect. at that point, there's probably something like 4 parts oj for 3 parts of natural flavoring, which will certainly change the flavor significantly.

prefect posted:i thought a highball was a generic term for "just one liquor and one mixer" i think thats true in general but also that theres a specific cocktail of japanese whisky (suntory toki is common) and club soda that is called a "highball" too. like most low end japanese whisky, toki sucks rear end on its own so it might as well be used as a mixer.
