When I was in high school a girlfriend's uncle handed me burned CD that just said "stoner music" on it that was a Sir Lord Baltimore CD. Of course at the time there was no way of me figuring out what the band was because I never saw that guy again and it took like 10 years before I figured out it was Sir Lord Baltimore.

Galvanizer are new, apparently, and on the hilariously named Everlasting Spew Records. It's like Demilich and Entrails had an evil baby.

I listen to so much death metal that two of my Spotify auto-generated Daily Mix playlists are pretty much exclusively DM. One tends more toward brutal/slam/tech stuff with incomprehensible burp vocals, but there's still significant overlap.

Posting this for the amazing song title:

They're both obvious and not obvious for metalheads, but Thin Lizzy is pretty essential late-70's proto-metal listening. I think they're pretty consistently solid outside of like, their first two albums, up until Phil Lynott's death, but of particular interest to a metalhead would be Jailbreak, Bad Reputation, Renegade, and Thunder & Lightning, along with their live album Live and Dangerous. One of the pioneers of the use of twin lead guitar melodies and dueling guitar solos, they had a big influence on Maiden and subsequently all of metal, and they're great in their own right. Phil Lynott is also one of rock music's greatest bass players so there's that too.

It's weird how few people are really into Sabbath outside the old Ozzy classics considering how incredible and how generally even their output has been through their career. Ozzy and Dio are obviously legends, but even the albums with the "lesser" singers—Tony Martin (who would have gone down as an all-time great on his own merits if he hadn't followed Dio) and Ian Gillan (a legend in his own right, but an awful fit for Sabbath)—are filled with classic tunes. It took them until 2013, nearly fifty years into their career, before they released the first thing I would even consider calling a bad album.

The title track of Headless Cross is a good place to get acquainted with the Tony Martin era

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2SrLC3LXqQ

The whole Tyr album is over the top great

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaQ6go3H8oY

It's my understanding that Tony Martin would have still been the singer on Dehumanizer (hot take: Black Sabbath's best album) if the record label hadn't gotten involved and insisted on either Ozzy or Dio being the singer on that album.

Sabbath aside: veering into hard rock territory, I have a serious soft spot for Uriah Heep's first couple albums
