In the movies they didn't, no. In the comics they have done it repeatedly which is partly why it's a thing with fans to expect or want it.

Back then, Captain America was created specifically to fight in WWII. His "death" coincided roughly with the end of the war, so branding a new one wasn't really necessary.

These days we are in a never-ending war, so there must always be a Captain America Falcon Widow Hawk Guy.

It makes sense in the comics or even in an earlier version of the MCU because post-resurrection he was the leader of the Avengers who became Earth's mightiest defenders, so you might want some continuity there, a torch bearer who would assure everyone that the Earth was still in good hands.

In current MCU continuity he has been a war criminal for the past 3 years which Hannibal joked about, and people have pretty much moved on with their lives. Spider-Man was like "oh this guy is a dangerous fanatic? Okay I'll web him up Mr. Stark!" There's really not the weight to his name that you would expect for there to need to always be a Captain America to protect us. There effectively hasn't been and the collective response was "oh bummer" *changes channel to E! news*.

(of course they will replace him anyway because it checks the box)

YEah but the audience knows he's the poo poo and the leader. All it takes to get the in-universe on board is a flashy saving of the Earth from Thanos where he dies and everyone goes "oh poo poo cap was our man all along, we always loved him".

They would have to show that what the heroes do has an impact on regular people, which the MCU sucks at.

That was pretty intense, huh?

I've recently been saying that Stark and Pym have held back the human race in the MCU by not sharing their tech with the rest of the world. Their hubris is what makes Earth defenseless and vulnerable against greater threats. If they pooled and shared their knowledge with the greatest minds on the Earth, poo poo would probably be loving Stark Trek levels by now.

Sadly the major issue there is that A) Stark and probably Pym would give it to the US government first and B) Even if you did trust the US government, this is a US government where they have more Literal Nazis than the current US government. In a vacuum the shared technology would probably be great, in the MCU it probably would end up with a very tiny Crossbone stabbing almost everyone the brain.

I had a crazy idea about Thanos and his plan. As we all know, upon being presented with Thanos's plan the entire internet proclaimed their mental superiority. They discussed why Thanos had an unrealistic plan and why overpopulation as Thanos describes it may not be a real thing to fear as many suggest. What if this was their plan all along? My theory is this: the plan was stupid on purpose to trick people into pointing out its flaws and becoming woke.

That's not even why it's stupid

It's stupid because the guy got power over ALL OF CREATION ITSELF.

He could just make the universe fifty times its current size and increase every planet and star to match and give everyone brand new materials to work from

Instead he just really wanted to kill people and came up with a stupid excuse to do so

People are dumb af and don't realize that Thanos isn't really primarily interested in solving his supposed problem and just likes being a baddie and killing and he's found an excuse for it. In the comics there's an explanation for this with his crush on literal capital D Death, but the movies try to make do without that for better or worse.

Because what Thanos is trying to do is heal himself but its flawed to begin with and this madness is all he has left. He just has the power to make his doomsday a reality and people latch on to him. Much like the American Right/GOP/Conservatives/Religious Nutcases some.

The real lovely thing about it is that it makes Earth overpopulation sound like something we need to solve by killing a bunch of people rather than killing like 500 of the right people and stopping anyone from hoarding resources the way they did.

We don't need to kill the population. A Global 1 Child policy over 3-4 generations will do the trick to lower. The problem is how to undo the damage and focus on stopping then reversing and controlling climate change and coming up with a system that doesn't result in what's going on today. How to get man to think and live differently.

We have the resources to reasonably support up to about 17 billion people on the Earth.

The problem has never been overpopulation. It’s been the same thing that makes America throw out 45% of the food it produces and have more empty homes than homeless people. It starts with a c and ends with apitalism.

Of all the complaints I never thought this one made a ton of sense. From what the film shows the snap alone wrecked the Infinity Gauntlet's poo poo. It's entirely possible that Thanos himself would not have had the ability to do that much within the restraints of the Gauntlet. (As opposed to the comic where he is a Capital G God.)

It's still a dumb plan but movie Thanos isn't really shown to have the literal omnipotence of the comic version.
