Aircraft engineers/pilots have a VERY high incidence rate of 'I know better' when it comes to bikes, anecdotally. A galaxy brain aircraft engineer PO is the only reason I know a PC cpu fan can't meaningfully cool a gsxr1100 rectifier or run on 12V. He also wired the rectifier to pump out totally unregulated voltage back into the alternator'a armature, luckily the alternator itself was hosed so his bike didn't catch on fire. An airline pilot was mildly surprised when I told him you need to put air in the tires once in a while; didn't notice the bike riding funny for the prior two years. Also thought engine oil 'dries out', panicked about having no oil in the bike (capacity 2800ml) so filled it till he could see oil in the sightglass. Drained oil: 6.5L. Sightglases are checked with the bike upright, not on the stand, if you're wondering. Seen another aircraft engineer decide the factory didn't know how to make earth cables and he knew better, spliced in a racecar style isolator for the battery and turned the big gauge battery earth lead into two small ~2.5mm core wires, all of this held together in the least corrosion-resistant way possible. His bike caught on fire.
