I had a customer try the "heh, looks like they wasted two years huh?" line on me after I called trump incurious. I laughed and said "Yeah, I wish I could go to court and tell the judge 'I've reviewed the evidence against me judge and you have my word there is nothing incriminating in it'". He kind of mumbled and collected his stuff and left but it shows that the narrative is getting through to the bottom, but it is even easier to counter than normal stuff.

Attempted Russian meddling may very well have happened but if it did, it had no provable effect on the outcome of election. Meanwhile the Saudis, Qataris, Israelis, etc. pour millions upon millions into our political system and everyone pretends that's completely acceptable. That anyone thinks twitterbots and stupid memes can compete with that kind of influence is a reflection of the incurable stupidity of American politics.

That anyone thinks twitterbots and stupid memes can compete with that kind of influence is a reflection of the incurable stupidity of American politics. Of course the Saudis, Qataris, Israelis, etc are pouring money into politics and of course it's a problem. Russians meddling may have not had an effect on the outcome, and I'm not up on the whole Kremlin Master Propagandist narrative or some of the more crazy liberals screaming Putin! But dismissing twitterbots and memes as not having an effect on discourse, or even being used in an attempt to shape public discourse, is kinda nuts. It even looks like it has an effect on people that are repeatedly exposed to this type of propaganda (memes and twitterbots): https://qz.com/1559385/facebook-content-moderators-end-up-believing-conspiracy-theories/ & https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/psychology-qanon-why-do-seemingly-sane-people-believe-bizarre-conspiracy-ncna900171

I hope the country makes it long enough for us to see it. E: Rectal Death Adept posted:Yeah, a more apt comparison is Benghazi. I think it’s all well and good to point out to liberals that putting any faith in Mueller or the justice system was a mistake, but let’s not overdo it folks. It doesn’t require tens of millions of dollars and a bunch of square-jawed Republican cops to see Trump’s hilariously out-in-the-open international corruption—it’s just that none of it is anything like a James Bond movie because it’s all banal oligarchic evil. It feels like a lot of people on the left are really missing an opportunity to refocus the conversation in favor of dunking on Dems, which is fine for a dead comedy forum maybe but is straight-up counterproductive in everyday politicking and posting. Also be sure to point out what incredible bullshit it is that the media immediately did Trump’s bidding and took the Barr summary’s framing and broke into live TV during March loving Madness to tell America the president was innocent! Because that happened, and we should all reflect on how easily we all got swept up in that narrative as a result. rko fucked around with this message at 04:16 on Mar 27, 2019 |

TweetBot on iOS is the best, but they’re all gonna be kinda poo poo since Twitter is restricting API access to kill third party clients because money. Like polls for example are only available in the official twitter app, they don’t even appear in third party apps. Expect it to get worse as twitter cracks down on clients that let you avoid their lovely algorithm.
