I make my kids earn their meals with “chore scrip” that they get for mowing the lawn and cleaning my firearms and whatnot and if it’s dinner time and they don’t have enough chore scrip they can use their “bad boy scrip” but they only get 5 of these a month and when they use one I dunk their food in the toilet before I give it to them.

if they’re out of bad boy scrip they’re allowed to fight the dog for the dogs food but my kids are pussies and they never win

Bad Boy Scrip is a good Soundcloud rap name.

If they let people buy fast food with SNAP then Papa Murphy's will go out of business.

But then no one will want to work and make me money!

Truly though, the biggest issue with universal basic income would be the growing wealth disparity, as automation kicks out all but highly skilled workers and no skill jobs that still require people, resulting in less middle class and more people who just afford the basics on UBI and the rich getting richer and having more and more influence over politics, etc.

This isn’t to say it can’t be done well, you just need a system in place that still incentivizes people to become highly skilled and wanting those jobs, while not incentivizing wealth hoarding.

they never thought this. what they were trying to communicate was that food stamps were handing out thousands of dollars of hard-working taxpayer money to the poor, to the point where they could live off luxury items. its always been about slashing funding

a bit of vimes theory to it, as i am reasonably well off (and middle aged) and the addition of a secure thousand a month makes a "4% pension" sort of scenario not just sum up nicer, but also removes a *lot* of the potential risk

They aren't going to get their ethnostate and Trump turned out to just be another piece of poo poo plutocrat so they jumped on board with a techno-liberalish-libertarianish-candidate who promised them $1000/month to sit around smoking weed and playing videogames.

They'll go back to Trump once the election season kicks off in earnest.

Also, white men love the free market only when it benefits them personally, and socialism only when it benefits them personally, and Silicon Valley transhumanism is more appealing to them than any religion. Since the alt-right are young, hyperatomized white men, a techbro libertarian offering UBI kinda squares the circle with them.

this would be it. it would be great.

employment would benefit because you could *risk* pursuing another position because you have something to help you.

it’s a mediocre band aid to our society’s hosed up problems, but it would help a lot of people get a tiny bit more secure. which is why the US will never embrace it
