It is loving aggravating that journalists do not report on factual things that happened but instead some poo poo someone told them.

My honest best guess is that he did something dumb and bad and the CPD did something infinitely worse and extremely loving lovely as per usual and that's why the case is sealed.

Well no, I think evidence like "Smollett gave these guys a check to stage a hate crime" is fake because it turns out he gave them a check for their personal training fee to personal train him. I think evidence like "they're on camera buying red hats and rope" is fake because they are on camera buying ski masks in the cold. Also that piece of ""evidence"" never made sense, because why would they need to buy MAGA hats if the attack was made-up in the first place and they weren't videoing it.

I certainly don't have all the evidence and it is very likely some of the "evidence" I have heard is bad or outright fake.

FishFood posted:https://twitter.com/wusa9/status/1111221735892889600?s=19 I thought this headline was significant as hell until I made the mistake of following the link and reading the actual article. "Chicago police provided a six-night hotel stay with separate rooms and 24-hour security to two brothers who said they were paid by "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett to stage a racist, anti-gay attack on him, according to investigative reports released Wednesday to several media outlets. The hotel rooms were part of an effort to avoid the media last month as detectives investigated Smollett's report that he was assaulted in January by a pair of men in downtown Chicago, the reports said." CPD is still corrupt and incompetent, but I don't see how this changes anything.

mystes posted:If Smollett didn't pay them to stage a hate crime, and they didn't actually buy ski masks for the purpose of attacking him, does that mean that you think they aren't the people who attacked him and the real culprits are still at large? I have no idea. It could have been someone else, or they could have attacked him for their own reasons and he's still a victim, the only thing we do know is all the evidence implicating him is fake. Maybe he even did it and there's secret evidence we haven't seen but I think just assuming that must be the case because the cops want him to be guilty isn't reasonable at this point. Could change with more information.

I'm saying that the headline was misleading as hell. I have no doubt that CPD did something wrong, bad, stupid, or corrupt in this case, because dropping it now is weird as hell. But I don't know what actually happened. I don't know if Smollet was ever attacked. I don't know what part the two brothers played, if any. I don't know if there was a frame-up, or a botched investigation, or a big old pile of Mark Fuhrman racism, or anything else. And neither do any of the other posters in this thread who are confidently claiming that they do know. Right now this thing is nothing but a Rorschach test, where people can believe whatever they want.
