I played persona 4 years ago and trailed off around floor 9 or something of kanji's dungeon because it was incredibly boring. Persona 5 having handcrafted dungeons is one of the biggest reasons I found the game so much more enjoyable.

Yeah what the gently caress. The dungeons having actual set pieces and designs were fantastic.

It's especially bad if you want to replay the game. It's a huge chore. The dungeons and 3 and 4 were a lot more enjoyable.

The dungeons in 4 were terrible and I resented ever having to go inside them.

I thought the dungeons in 4 were mostly fine (but nothing fantastic, either) but I have some strong words for whoever designed Void Quest

The dungeons in 3.......existed, I guess?

Speaking of 4, Mitsuo is down. Black Frost did the trick so thanks whoever suggested it. My SLink was high enough when I fused him to also get Agidyne, and that in conjunction with Mind Charge and Tarunda meant I was hitting for almost 750 a pop. He went down like a chump, pretty much.

To chime in on the current discussion:

I prefer 5's dungeons to 4's. The rat puzzle is SUPER tedious, even on ng+ when you already know it. it's still slow and annoying. 4's just aren't interesting enough. Kanji's in particular felt like a slog because it's just floors and floors of the same poo poo. I'd much rather have handcrafted layouts and set pieces. Mementos manage to utilize the random generator well enough without getting boring, unless you are banging out 10 requests at a time. but that's more on you than anything else.

My biggest problem with Mementos (aside from the music) is how you can't use the "hide" mechanic, where you peek around corners and sneak attack enemies.

Tell me you wouldn't want to see Bus-Mona being sneaky and I'll call you a liar.

The dungeons in P4 are whatever but they have great music so I don't care. They are inoffensively bland so the music makes me forgive that. "Heaven" makes Nanako's dungeon positively amazing.

Should see the dungeons in P2IS if you want bad Persona dungeons. All the tribulations of your SMT dungeon - teleporters, trapdoors, poison floors - but combined with a poo poo encounter rate and battle system. Even great music can't save them.

I mean, it's not really necessary? Most of the stuff you fight in Mementos is pretty weak, and half the time you're either hitting them from behind or juking them and then hitting them from behind.

I do agree about the music though, and it's extra bad in a game filled to the brim was awesome music.

Kiss the Joycon to Kiss Zelda

Tartarus is boring, P4's dungeons are better but I still prefer P5's Palaces a lot. The fact that it's not just mindless randomly generated dungeons works in its favour, especially in NG+. I was able to breeze through them more or less in my recent playthrough (especially having SP Adhesives, better equipment and when you rank up Ryuji's S.Link to get the ability which lets you avoid fights with lower level enemies).

I enjoy the palaces in P5. I don't think I'd enjoy going back to randomly generated palaces, especially cause I thought the Bank and Casino palaces were absolutely great, and the Pyramid palace was really good. Kamoshida's and the museum palace were good and thematic, but not like stand out worthy. The space palace wasn't bad other than the one tedious as gently caress puzzle. The ship can get fired into the sun.

I'd like to see a short cut option in NG+ kinda like how Tactics Ogre (PSP) has when you've already completed a long story dungeon/multi stage fight where there's a backdoor to cut out the BS.

Oh if we're starting a list of things I'd like to see in ng+:

- NO tutorials for ANYTHING. Ever. I already beat the game once. You don't need to tell me what a Social Link is, what a skill is, what fusion is, etc.

That made the ng+ playthrough FAR more tedious than it needed to be. And that's even with farming the reaper to get to lvl 99, so most Shadow fights didn't happen at all. I'd Ambush and just get the mask.

The later musics have good dungeon, but I couldn't tell you what Yukiko, Kanji, Rise, Mitsuo, or Naoto's dungeon themes sounded like.

Tartarus had great music, and the option to switch to other songs.

Mementos has a 5 second loop that doesn't even sound good. :psyduck:

Basically the same opinion here. The only ones I didn't really like were Kanji's dungeon theme (it was ok in short segments, but I'd get tired of it after a while) and Mitsuo's (I was kinda neutral on the retro version).

I like the custom P5 dungeons way more in general than the older, randomized ones, and the only custom ones I didn't like more (space station and ship) were because of poorly implemented gimmicks.

I think the puzzle parts of P5's dungeons would drag less if you didn't also have enemies in those rooms interrupting you.

Man, even though they take place within the same number of days, P5 feels like such a drag with how many days you lose out of because of some short scene happening during the day and then Morgana telling you to go to bed compared to other entries. P3 literally had some event happen every month that took up a full week or two, but the Full Moon system helped keep things consistent. In P4, you also had plenty of time in between kidnappings to just kind of hang around and do social links, but P5 feels like the game really, really expects you to finish the dungeon in one/two days so you can social link with the time remaining, because as soon as the change of heart happens you're on the railroads toward the next case. P3 lived on that month-to-month tension, but P4 had lots of fun things like the festivals to give you not just a combat break, but also a tonal break where the gang goes to a festival or on the camping trip or something.

Rise's sounds like extremely generic music I'd hear at a second-rate club, and Mitsuo's is just generic "retro" music. I really am not a fan of either.

Naoto's, however, I'll give you. It's good.

Everybody says this all the time but I wonder if this is split between people who played the earlier ones and people who came in new to P5, cause as the latter every time a day was consumed with plot and Morgana was telling me to go to bed I just immediately accepted that the game was telling me my turn was over and it was fine cause it was balanced around that. I was more thrown off in NG by the social links gated by stats that the game won't tell you what the requirement is and you couldn't possibly level that high your first time around until way later than they appear which make much more sense as shortcuts in NG+.

You honestly probably lose the same amount of days in both games, but P3 and P4 tended to give actual reasons versus just Morgana telling you to go to bed because.
