But a combination of: 1. Liberals being content that they had now won, having elected a black guy 2. Obamacare being passed Caused it to swing back. The economy tanking can hurt Republicans, the world isn't THAT different than it was in 2007.

I think Obama did fairly well in 2010 and 2012 if you think voters were blaming him for the weak economy, historically. A bad economy is usually pretty devastating in elections. But I also don't think people generally blamed Obama for the economy. Edit: but I've also said Trump's approval rating is oddly low considering the relatively strong economy and relatively peaceful world stage.
