The energy from the windmills is actually sold off to other places and the county makes a lot of money off of it that trickles down and lets us have some pretty nice schools and road crews.

Oahu has invested super heavily into solar and in the middle of the day half the grid is supplied by solar panels. They’re also building a ton of wind and the biggest power plant is the one that burns trash. Hawai’i is trying.
