yeah tbh I don't see how continued escalation in the fighting could be avoided now. Still I've been surprised at how casualty shy militias in Libya are, compared to Syria. Apparently Hiftar's LNA lost like 140 people captured who advanced to far and got surrounded. They were captured seemingly without any deaths. Even though there's been a lot of skirmishing and even some airstrikes so far there's few reports of deaths. I think that gives space for a potential negotiated ceasefire. Regardless though, I think this operation has already been a win for Haftar, even if he doesn't conquer Tripoli here and now it's clear which way the winds are blowing.

Unlike ISIS, the Taliban at least seem to want to make a somewhat reasonable nation.

It's possible that some of those who fight Bashar al Assad are doing so for reasons other than just generalized hatred of secularism

Footage from the Lafarge ex-cement plant from yesterday, here's the story behind it:

quote:

So yesterday IS fighters who are keep prison in Derik city try to escape . The where video of fighters jets hovering around the city. The last report was the prison is under the controle of SDF, and nobody escape.
It's fascinating to see some footage from the plant to 100% confirm that yup, the plant has totally been turned into a US operating base.

Edit: Oops, almost forgot. Hey, guidoanselmi. I have to pull back from different threads at different times to sort of preserve my sanity. Right now I've pulled back from following the stuff in Venezuela and from the main Trump thread because good god why?

Ah yes, the Saudis won't behave if we don't support them.

Well, they already don't seem to be behaving, so by that logic I guess we should stop supporting them then.

U.S. Set To Designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard As Terrorist Organization

Looking forward to us burning another trillion loving dollars in a third (fourth?) forever war.

In unprecedented move for the U.S., Trump administration declares elite Iranian military unit a terrorist organization

quote:

The move was announced Monday as the Trump administration looks for ways to increase economic and political pressure on the Islamic regime in Tehran.

The designation of the Revolutionary Guards Corps marks the first time Washington has branded a foreign military a terrorist group. While the designation will have little immediate impact, it runs counter to warnings from U.S. military and intelligence officials that other nations could use the designation as a precedent against U.S. action abroad.

It's official now.

The Saudi Twitter friends club are out in full force promoting Haftars assault, but it's looking more and more like he bit off more than he could chew. The disorganized militias he probably thought he would walk over one by and are banding together and presenting a unified defense now that there's a common enemy and an immediate threat. Sucks to suck.

Fighting seems pretty bad right now, both sides are launching airstrikes on the other and the battles are spilling into populated parts of the Tripoli suburbs. Misratans were posting picture of themselves moving grad rockets, which is always a bad sign. I wonder if we'll see any dog fights? I'm not sure if these strikes are from helicopters or planes or what kind of vehicles either side has.
