Supposedly it's an acceptable alternate pronunciation, but I'm not sure I really believe that.

It's a valid alternate pronunciation, apparently.

According to wikipedia, it was in use from the 60s to the 80s and then fell out of use. The proper way to pronounce it is the same way you pronounce the G in garage.

Does anyone make one like that? With a big handle for grasping as you go up/down? Seems useful.

Spit-balling here but I imagine they didn't hold up and having a handle suddenly give way when you are leaning on it is worse than having no handle at all. Lean left, lean right, lean forward and eventually the thin bit around the connector is gonna give.

Even if you put a big red label on it saying "This is only for balance, don't put all your weight on it" people will still lean all their weight against it because people are idiots.

I think it happened because a cop got punched by some kid. The obvious and totally proportional response is to call in your spinning murder bird to gently caress up everyone's cornhole game and hopefully not crash into the crowd of hundreds of students.

Wikipedia says it is derived from the word 'giant', so perhaps we're the ones getting it wrong?

Memento posted:

Pretty much. Everyone would use 'billion', heck we still do in most non-IT usage.

Christopher Lloyd said he had never heard of the word before BTTF and was simply going on the pronunciation given to him by some science guy he met on the set.

I had to google that phrase in the context of a party. So uh, I assume the party goers are doing something not allowed by having said party? I'm kind of at a loss here culturally to see what's going on.

College football fans are probably the closest thing American sports has to soccer hooligans/ultras. Tailgate parties are a thing where everybody shows up and cooks BBQ and gets drunk in the parking lot before the game starts, and the NFL has banned them for about a decade now due to "security issues."

That's what is happening here, almost certainly.

Last time a hurricane hit the coast here we had a artificial gas shortage because a lot of idiots bought all the loving gas in the city because they thought San Antonio was about to turn into Fury loving Road.
