Lucky Greedo posted:This is happening at an weirdly accelerated rate where I live, in an area affected by Hurricane Michael. All the poor black people and trailer trash who used to work low-end service jobs here just left, because so much local housing was actually physically lost that rents are now impossible for anyone to afford on 8-10 bux an hour. Every hotel and apartment complex for 100 miles is occupied by FEMA refugees or oblivious, chudly vacationers, and there's just nowhere for people to go. Those of us who are still able to live and work where I do keep telling management they need to offer higher wages right now, and as they fail and fail to do so it's been really funny watching my coworkers gently caress off en masse to, for example, McD's, which is offering 14/hr in my neighborhood, whilst HR grows increasingly harrassed and hunted-looking and whines about how "these people" just don't want to work. Lmao that rules Especially in retail, they'll never value the job you do but maybe they will value not having to do it I'm sure the free market will get around to building affordable housing eventually

Weird IQ derail. Pretty sure the dude who posted that was saying that his mom thinks he's dumb because she measures intelligence in dollars and he was just trying to say "no, I'm not an idiot. See my IQ score" and that she was an idiot for thinking that way. He wasn't bragging or anything.

Not because he was left wing (he had a Confederate flag in his library despite being a rich kid from New Jersey and liked to go gay bashing at bars), but because he really wanted to just live in a cabin in New Brunswick shooting deer and drinking beer until he died of liver failure. Interesting. Not sure why he couldn't shoot American deer but whatever. My brother, who works in immigration, looked into if we could get US citizenship and discovered it might be easier after our dad is dead, strangely. He renounced before we were born. I have no interest personally, especially since the US is one of two countries that double charges income tax on overseas earnings.

You are only liable for difference if paying taxes to a country that has a bilateral tax agreement with the US, which is most of the world. IANACPA thought, so a grain of salt and all that.

Foreign nationals are now getting taxed like crazy; when we pay honoraria to guest speakers, we have to either pay them more on the front end to account for the 30% tax rate, or work out a deal where we're like, instead of an honorarium how about you stay an extra day on our dime.

OP didn't say they thought the metrics were a good indicator themselves either. They said they were repeatedly forced to take IQ tests by the same person calling them stupid for being as rich as them. At no point did the OP make it sound like they thought it was a good thing and instead it shows that their mother will force what ever stupid metric upon them that is needed to score points on OP at that particular instant.

Maybe the mom is right and the poster is dumb as poo poo but I have more of a bug up my rear end about people equating intelligence with their bank statement than I do with folks citing what I consider to be more comparable measures. Which I think was all he was trying to say. I'm broke as poo poo and maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes but I'm smarter than my manager who makes more money than me. The manager who said that "Donald Trump is one the best things to ever happen to this country" and who advised me to read Jordan Peterson books. gently caress, I'll easily assert that I'm smarter than our current president.

IQ means nothing for your success or future prospects, HTH. Then again, my wife has a degree and makes the same as I do, but with $25k in student loan debt, so you could also say a college education doesnt really predict your future success either.
