insurance companies were willing to concede in the rightwing affordable care act that children could remain on their parents' insurance until the age of 27, so I guess this is them wanting to renege on the minor concessions

This is more for auto insurance. And if you're sharing cars or live in the same household you can be on the same plan. Insurance companies rather have the kids spun off asap because they will be more expensive individually than as part of a group plan.

One big reason the parents should probably spin them off to their own plans even if they still pay for it is because anyone named on a policy can be party to a lawsuit. And damages from car accidents often exceed policy limits which would put the parents assets at risk.

It seems like it never takes more than a hundred to two hundred years to have huge problems once real estate moves from feudalism/resident ownership to a more modern landlord system. I mean even most feudal nations the serfs and peasantry, even if they didnt technically own their home and rented the farm from the lord or used the commons, you wouldn't get tossed out for nothing and it was a big deal to kick tenants off your land. partially because that's how peasant rebellions got whipped up and partially because count von inbred next door probably wont be happy to have a bunch of penniless refugees to deal with. but theres no pressure, financially or socially, for modern landlords to give a poo poo about their tenants

two loving days for immediate family?! I grew up my whole loving life with my step sisters (before we were actually related, mostly) and I just call them regular ol sisters at this point. What kind of evil bastard came up with this. Christ. I'm an unfeeling piece of poo poo and it still took me about a week to really stop spacing out after my cousin got creamed by a drunk driver

Thanks to big poor person family shenanigans if they made me prove my relation to almost anyone it'd be like 'third cousin' and I wouldn't get any time off

A friend's grandmother died earlier this year and the private school she teaches at gave her like 3 days off and constantly e-mailed and texted pressuring her to not use all three days during it.

Last November I lost my mom suddenly within 30 days of days of her being diagnosed with a brain tumor. She just turned 66 a month earlier. As an only child, not only was this devastating and left me feeling quite alone, but it was then my responsibility to pull and keep the remaining members of my family together. Not an easy task. I wasn't even able to get out of bed until 4 days after she passed and took a week off from work. That in itself was way too short. And forget about therapy or counselling, had to get right back to work!

Basically what I'm saying is even if this was written as a joke, gently caress this author royally and I look forward to kicking them down when they are in need of a mental break. It's the American way after all!

Can confirm this is absolutely not a joke and is my current bereavement policy.

The people that created it are salary and don't have attendance so it literally doesn't matter to them what happens to us. They'll just replace us with temps that have less benefits and lower rates.

The children on their parents' plan is part of a pool policy they make less money from (especially if you assume the parent gets insurance from work). The ACA was already going to mandate that healthy adult pay into insurance, they just wanted a bigger slice.
