(job, level, race, or GM-only gear)

What a straight forward and honest letter - I'd much rather have some bummer truths laid down than to be told 'maybe one day just wait and see!!'. A bit sad because I'd totally be in the demographic for bunny boys and buff cat women, but I get the logic and well, maybe in the far future we can have them! A realm reborn reborn.

Can I make a macro to change my finisher depending on what combo I'm using? Having all my tank combos on one face set but needing to have the DPS finisher on a separate one always kind of messed with me

Nope, and macroing abilities together is a very, very bad idea. It adds a delay to everything you do, which adds up quickly with abilities you use frequently. There is also a chance of skills just not triggering at all due to the way that skills do not queue when triggered through macros.

They are really bad. In normal combat you can queue up your next action while your GCD is still on cooldown. Macros can't do that and it ends up being a significant DPS loss if you use them. Especially don't try to macro multiple combat GCDs together. Macro steps can only be done in multiples of 1 second but the GCD is not a multiple of 1 second so you will lose crazy amounts of DPS trying to macro multiple GCDs together.

While you are leveling, HQ crafted gear is just as good as gear from any other source. End game crafted gear tends to be a bit worse than gear you can get from end game currency. There are some exceptions, such as melding five pieces of materia to get an important substat that you can't get from another source of a similar ilvl. For example, BRDs and MNKs really, really want a high crit rate for their class mechanics. If the high level gear they have access to doesn't come with crit rate on it, then a piece of crafted gear with a pentameld for crit rate would be the best item for that equipment slot.
