as an aside, if anyone sees something on amazon (all-caps brand names are a tipoff, not sure how this naming convention got started, though) do an img search through ali and you'll find the exact thing for 1/3 the price

So curious about getting one for my commute, but I don't want it to blow up or whatever. That’s one of the more popular ones and the brand is pretty well known. You’ll be fine. I was doing some research on them last year before the whole bird craze.

Personally, if the price on amazon is close enough I would buy there so you have somewhere to return to. If you are going cheap, go all in and look for something $200. Im sure someone is making a knockoff xiaomi scooter with the same range and parts compatibility. Similarly, the chinese version brompton folding bikes can be really close and even fit the real hinges and hardware I own 5 or 6 various xiaomi electronics and they have all been excellent quality on par with cheap sony or samsung. I say go for it if the price is what you want Fauxtool fucked around with this message at 04:20 on May 10, 2019 |

The screen isn't the best quality, but that also keeps the battery life great (2 weeks++). Very happy with it. The amazfit might be cool for some, but the app is utter trash. I forget the details exactly, but I had to download some 3rd party app just to make it work. I suppose that in theory it works and it has the functions it claims, but he whole UX experience is hostile.

I tried the official app, but I forget exactly why I had to use a 3rd party app in addition. I do remember the watch taking hours to get paired and needing to be repaired twice in that 2 day period. And iirc the alarms were stored on the app and had to be transmitted to the watch before they went off which is not reliable. My Garmin stores it's own alarms.

I was on Android. Maybe I just got a bad one? I remember the whole experience just being awful. The QR code in the box to download the app didn't work. The play store lists multiple apps of varying compatibility. I do recall hearing about the big app update another user mentioned, I know I had my watch before that update. eSporks fucked around with this message at 18:38 on May 10, 2019 |

eSporks posted:I was on Android. Maybe I just got a bad one? Ah, now that's a story I recognise! Tiny square of paper in the box with a QR code that that doesn't work and a URL to a broken website that contains 3 possible files to download - none with descriptive names - all requiring you to bypass Android security to sideload onto the phone. Googling for a solution and finding a yahoo groups post that suggests a particular app on the Play store that may work. Which isn't there. But there are 5 apps with names that are nothing to do with the name of the watch, whose descriptions suggest they may work. Pick one on the basis that it has the most readable English, try that. Spend 15 mins trying to get the watch to connect to Bluetooth using the recommended method and failing. Ignore the app, pair it using the OS Remove and reinstall the app.....and it works!

Why are you hurting yourselves?! 1) The step counter is (supposedly) more accurate than a phone 2) It has a heart rate monitor which is useful when doing exercise other than walking running (e.g. bicycling) 3) It has a heart rate monitor which is useful when your vision goes dark, your chest feels like it will explode and your legs go wobbly to see just how much strain you've put on your heart 4) It alerts you when your phone is ringing when you've left it on vibrate in the other room 5) The vibrating alarm is great for waking you up without disturbing a sleeping partner.

Yea Xiaomi is a huge company on the scale of Apple in China and they make a large range of products from cell phones to drones to air filters. Most of their items typically have very good quality although I suppose it's possible that there is the occasional lemon or some of the older products still being spotty on quality.

This way if I feel my pocket buzz, but my watch doesn't I know it's something I can tottally ignore. Been a big stress reducer for me. The watch has allowed me to be less tied to phone. The alarm is just the best. It's the only alarm I've never slept through, but it's still a nice gentle wake up.

O2 requires you to sit super still for a measurement, if they take readings while you're doing stuff they'll be highly inaccurate. If you've got a medical condition that requires you to check spO2, it's probably just as easy to get a cheapy that goes on your finger.

So I ordered stuff off Ali for the first time last month on the 6th with the Ali site showing a "shipment time" on the 14th along with an epacket tracking number. There is no tracking information available this whole time, either through the ali site or epacket's site. Should I be worried or is this normal?
