Small patch, buff for peasant militia

Changelog for 1.3.0.14
Added more detailed error messages in case some anti-virus software is messing with the game's saves.
Changed some more appropriate character backgrounds to also be recruitable with the 'Peasant Militia' origin.
Changed ambition of having a full roster of 12 men to having a full roster of 16 men when playing the 'Peasant Militia' origin.
Fixed an ambition available with the 'Lone Wolf' origin that is in fact quite impossible to complete given the origin's limitations.
Fixed issue with 'Hammer Mastery' ambition when having not a single character without the mastery at the time of completion.
Fixed various minor things.

I wish Lone Wolf let you have, like, 14 people in the roster. Being hard limited to ZERO reserves just seems too painful.

Did they say if the peasant militia buff is retroactive to existing saves?

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

Well, I mean, you don't have to field everyone at once. Keep a small but capable six on the field and six in reserve? That probably wouldn't work great unless you had some really stand out guys, but that's ostensibly the point of Lone Wolf.

The trouble with allowing any reserves in Lone Wolf is it lets you hide your avatar. I seem to recall them mentioning the whole point is that either you risk yourself in combat, or you fight a man short, you can't have it both ways.

Just fought a brutal fight against a full company of a noble house and a small group of traders as the raiders. Through some miracle I only had three casualties and out of the three, the two best managed to survive without anything too devastating in regards to permanent injuries.

I just copy/pasted from the steam update when I saw the game patching

vyelkin

According to some random guy in the Steam comments on the update, this is the new list of peasant militia hires:

beggar,brawler,butcher,cripple,daytaler,deserter,farmhand,fisherman,gravedigger,graverobber,houndmaster,lumberjack,mason,miller,militia,miner,peddler,poacher,ratcatcher,refugee,shepherd,tailor,thief,vagabond

so that's adding butcher, lumberjack, mason, miller, peddler, shepherd, and tailor. Nothing outstanding there though lumberjacks and butchers can make decent melee bros. Still no bowyers or hunters.

On the start of my poacher game, I just cannot keep the man in the number 10 position alive. No matter what I do. I keep finding decent enough guys, plonking them on the top front line, and then through some wild misfortune, dead. Over and over.

It's hilarious.

Maybe on the biggest of the big cash-for-heads contracts.

Has anyone else noticed that brigands seem a lot less reluctant to do their turtling bullshit now? Even with like three bowmen against my single one they've just been yoloing across the field.

Not complaining though.

I might have a new favorite trading seed: ROBINHOOD in all caps. Two dye villages at the bottom, good citadels. No gems though sadly. Not sure where the golden goose is on it.

Edit: the goose is easily accessible north of the leftward of the two dye villages.

I don't get it. Do I travel south from the villages in hopes of proccing a golden goose event? Or do I buy it in one of the cities?

No no --

If you're playing on that map, ROBINHOOD seed,

1) go to the leftward of the two southern villages that have dye, the one that starts with H, then

2) stand on the dye place on the map

3) head straight north until you see a weird thing (about a day's travel or so). Click the weird thing.

early on in my current run i had a map with a decent hill that i pulled my whole group into a defensive position on top of. the brigands did the same thing on their hill and sat completely still for twelve rounds while my staff slinger killed two of them. I finally ended up attacking and killing them after his staff broke from use.

this seems very annoying but also very amusing and historically realistic so i'm not sure what to think about it

I am now a huge fan of beast slayers on the second line. really nice defense stats, good enough ranged to be a jav-bro and just evil with those pikes.

also, you can take courier/caravan missions when you choose the viking background. the contracts pay for poo poo, but they'll only send you to friendly cities no more than two days away.

That isn't remotely true as on caravan missions I have been sent into hostile cites.

Mouse over your relations with the city after negotiating and it'll tell you it's a small minus.

but a couple percentage-point shift in buy and sell prices adds up - that's why I think the merchant start is surprisingly powerful (although no match for the militia or maybe even the raiders).

Did they adjust the prevalence of alps / unholds / hexen etc since the last DLC? Last time it seemed like I never saw raiders any more, now it seems much more balanced. I'm still early game days though.

Nah I was getting offered caravan contracts for stupid across the map trips way into hostile territory.

Fortunately the factions have now cooled off enough that I can venture back into the north, just in time for a greenskin invasion to hit. This is gonna be cool.

Also holy poo poo whips are really useful.

I've been seeing tons of raiders this game, and no alps or unholds yet (except the barbarian unholds).

I also saw a hex traveling with a small group of bandits, so that's something new.

get a good map seed, flee for friendly territory, if contracts aren't feeding you enough cash go raid the gently caress out of lairs

I'm playing them now and the most important thing is to make sure that the friendly faction has a good amount of villages. If you play for 50 days or so your monk will offer to bribe one of the other houses into letting you visit their castles but their villages will still be hostile it looks like. If you set the first crisis to noble war it will reset your reputation with the ones that still hate you when the war ends.

One strategy I've seen being done for Lone Wolf is to take it literally and actually solo thugs until level 11 before trying to bring in more troops, seems like LW start is guaranteed next to a castle with training hall, where the mid-level training lets you get almost a full level per fight. Would take some tries to get right, but getting a brother near max level that fast certainly looks powerful.

Yeah I did this and had a lvl 11 hedge knight at like day 12. You can only fight thugs and thralls and like spiders though.
