Just write the loving referral, Karen.

https://globalnews.ca/news/5279131/doctors-referrals-court/

quote:

Ontario’s highest court says doctors in the province must give referrals for medical services that clash with their moral or religious beliefs.

In a unanimous ruling released today, a three-judge panel dismissed an appeal seeking to overturn a divisional court decision that upheld the referral requirement.

The referral requirement is part of a policy issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to address issues surrounding, among other things, assisted dying and abortion.

Last year, the divisional court found that while the policy does infringe on doctors’ religious freedom, the benefits to the public outweigh the cost to physicians.

The court said doctors can ask their staff to provide a referral to another doctor who can provide the service, or choose to specialize in a type of medicine where these issues are less frequent.

In the appeal, a group of five doctors and three professional organizations argued the ruling was unreasonable because it gave more weight to an assumed problem with access to health care than to a real infringement of doctors’ rights.

The group – which includes the Christian Medical and Dental Society of Canada, the Canadian Federation of Catholic Physicians’ Societies and Canadian Physicians for Life – said there is no evidence that patients would be harmed by not receiving a referral. It also alleged the court erred in saying doctors could pick specialties where fewer moral conflicts arise, arguing that presumes physicians can easily switch jobs.

The college, which regulates doctors in Ontario, said in documents that its policy aims to balance physicians’ beliefs with the need to ensure access to care.

It said suggesting that people can simply find another physician to treat them ignores the barriers patients face, particularly vulnerable ones and those living in remote areas.

Physicians who think their religious beliefs are a reason to make patients suffer should absolutely be switching jobs.

CBC Radio 1 was talking about it this morning. All fingers are pointing to Rich Coleman of the BC Liberals, going all the way back in 2001 for making the environment favourable for casinos, giving huge incentives and accepting large payouts from the bc lotto corp and neutering the gambling oversight groups by merging 5 of them into 2 groups, getting rid of the ability to do "on-the-ground" enforcement. I haven't seen a picture of him before but I can't get over how much he looks like Doug Ford/Donald Trump/a human toad.

Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett is condemning a newly-released video that shows a Kelowna RCMP officer questioning an under-aged Indigenous teen who was reporting a sexual assault, asking her questions such as "were you turned on during this at all, even a little bit?"

"It was totally inappropriate and I don't know where people get that kind of right to re-victimize somebody, it's disgusting," Bennett told reporters on Parliament Hill Wednesday morning.

The video is from 2012, but was published and first reported on by APTN News earlier this week after it was released in relation to a civil lawsuit against the B.C. Ministry of Child and Family Development.

The more than two hour long footage of the interview with the alleged victim shows the male officer questioning the unidentified young woman after she reported a sexual assault while in the care of British Columbia's child welfare system, according to APTN News.

"Physically you weren’t at all responsive to his advances? Even maybe subconsciously?" the RCMP officer asks.

Eliminate cash so that all transactions require a paper trail, and tax gift income from out of country beyond some reasonably low threshold, possibly averaging over a multiyear window.

Require all transactions over X amount to be validated against CRA tax records to ensure enough assets and income have been legally recorded. If it doesn't add up, disallow the transaction.

Allow submissions of tax records from overseas but any money from those must be proven to follow currency export and tax laws of the host country.

BC Ed Chat:

quote:

Now, former Vancouver School Board chair and public education advocate Patti Bacchus says she’s hearing from multiple sources close to the bargaining that the [class size and composition] issue is once again front and centre.

“I think everyone knew it was still going to be a tough round of bargaining with the mandate government has put into place for public sector agreements, but I hear that it was rougher than expected,” she told CKNW’s Lynda Steele Show.

“What I’m hearing is there’s some real frustration that what is being tabled on the employers’ side would essentially kind of nullify what the teachers won in their epic court case in terms of stronger language around class size and composition in many of the restored agreements. And so there’s a lot of fear.”

Bacchus said the language being used refers to “flexibility” around class sizes, and one idea being floated would be to have a standard ratio of specialist teaching positions imposed across the province.

B.C. Finance Minister Carole James rejected the assertion that the province was asking for concessions from teachers.

“No one around the table is looking at concessions. We’re looking at change, positive change for kids. Positive change for teachers, making sure we improve the system,” James said Tuesday.
https://globalnews.ca/news/5276068/...LRGz4VPvDkhgE_I

Carole James is baldly lying and her Liberal newspeak doesn't exonerate her. They are straightforwardly asking for concessions on language that the BCTF only just won back after a 14 year court battle.
