wafflemoose posted:Yeah, Blood's maps are very confusing. It's very easy to get lost in them. Not only confusing, but featureless and bland. After the hospital that was better, the 5th and 6th maps were no better. Grey walls everyhwere, no strong themes except a boring 'industrial', buttons (and even doors!) hard to see. The game also seems to lose steam around this part, because the enemy repertoire stops having new additions. You have the instahit cultists, the melee guys (zombie, fat zombie, fish man), the small guys (rats, spiders, hand), the gargolye which in the end it's just another melee enemy, the hellhound and the wraith. I feel as if the game needed 4-5 more enemy types.

Just trying Deathwish with Fresh Supply, the cellar in Firebelly doesn't seem to be working. I think I saw someone had the same issue? Using the manual patch from GOG. Bloody Pulp Fiction just doesn't load, but BPF was always weird, I'm sure someone will get it working sooner or later. So... we're getting Blood 2 next, right?

Got up to episode 3 and beat the first 3 maps today. Gotta agree with the poster above and say that so far episode 3 seems pretty bleh. Really not liking the bland city aesthetic. Still having a lot of fun with it overall, though.

Re: Blood talk Is it the third episode that has that goddamn lovely switch puzzle? I never really cared for Plasma Pack as it feels a bit like deleted levels from the main game strung together with an "Eh, why not?" kinda vibe. Cryptic passage is great though, admittedly. I've never played Death Wish though.

Then it is a case of not running on the tiles, because running will cause the puzzle to teleport you away, even if you were going for the proper solution.

Speaking of Hexen, does GZDoom still make the thrid hub unbeatable if you are running the Death Kings of the Dark Citadel wad? Every time I've gotten there I've had to switch over to the base wad to complete the level.

When loading Deathkings, the normal campaign is not normally available. If you're somehow playing the normal campaign while loading Deathkings, then you will run into map conflicts, because Deathkings' multiplayer hub takes over the MAP33-MAP38 slots, which in the original Hexen campaign are used by maps from the third and fifth hubs. It's not GZDoom's fault if that happens to you, it's your fault for doing something not normally possible without using console commands. You could make yourself an edited copy of hexdd.wad where you remove the multiplayer levels.

It's always when I'm looking at a place where the rest of the map is, there is a ton more of geometry far away. I wonder, is there any way to put a 'distance view' radius or cap in gzdoom?

I just tried to look up the YouTube video I used to figure that tile puzzle out. I think it was this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmaUQIqeuQg&t=284s Pattern/solution at 4:45, actual puzzle is at 8 minutes. It ends up being the third pattern listed. Which he only tried during the final attempt. But now I'm not actually sure if not running is the key to the puzzle. I just suggest you just noclip to skip to the next level. Don't noclip the puzzle, skip the ENTIRE level. Edit: This is how every speedrunner does the puzzle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwFJTebapfY&t=913s (15:13) Mierenneuker fucked around with this message at 20:20 on May 16, 2019 |

I actually have three wads, one is labeled hexen and came with my steam copy. The other two are labeled hexen and hexendd, both of which came with my Steam copy for Deathkings. I think what happened was I was loading the hexen.wad that was in the Deathkings folder when I ran in to the glitch, then switched over to the hexen.wad that was in the base game folder. Strange because the file size is identical between the two. The glitch was specifically one of the triggers not activating in the Seminary when I came out of a sub level, I tried several different things but the only thing that worked was switching wads. Not sure why I so clearly remembering loading hexendd and playing the main campaign though. This was a few years ago now and gzdoom looks entirely different than I remember and works much better now. I'm not going to judge how you get your hands on a copy of a 20+ year old game, but there is no way that WAD came from the Steam version.

With all the problems that game has I feel like we wouldn't be getting a remaster of an existing game so much as we would be getting an entirely different game that vaguely resembles one from twenty years ago. Not that that would be a bad thing, mind. There were actually some good and fun ideas to the game, like letting you dual-wield indefinitely once you got a second copy of a gun, or the multiple playable characters with different stats (even if only Caleb got to see cutscenes and Ishmael simply didn't have enough health or ammo to live long enough to get the weapons he was good with). Just fix the big bugs (the constant crashes, the completely randomized damage, the flare gun being the only thing that could light enemies on fire, everything surrounding Drudge Lords), and stop pretending the Behemoth was in any way a fun or interesting enemy, and we might end up with a game that's actually worth playing yourself instead of watching someone else

A full-on remake of the game to actually make it good would be neat, but probably way more effort than the game deserves. Fresh Supply got an update on GOG, what's the difference between 1.8.8-3 and 1.8.8-5?
