So, bit the bullet, resubbed, and finished the launch Knights of the Eternal Throne story. My two cents:

Definitely better than Knights of the Fallen Empire. Not a high bar to clear, but Eternal Throne had a clear idea of what it wanted to be about and what was going to happen. A smaller, more streamlined main cast helped.

The actual mission design, though, I feel took a step backwards. I didn't care for any of the walker sections (the one on Iokath was decently fun) and there's still far too much reliance on waves of skytroopers and knights to pad out gameplay. Almost every episode felt like it was dragging on by ten or fifteen minutes too long, and I think some quests like the quantum bomb could have used better signposting rather than making me study the map for a few minutes just to figure out where I needed to go - Dromund Kaas was a particularly severe offender.

gently caress that ballroom mission in particular. Neat idea, shades of the Winter Palace from Dragon Age: Inquisition, but I really hated the last part where it makes you walk every single inch of that multi-layer map in the most convoluted route possible fighting waves of faceless mooks.

The higher reactivity to player choices was very noticeable, and welcome. My lady Agent was romancing Lana, so there were a number of incidental pieces of automatic dialogue where they talked on their own as lovers. Nico Okarr of all people made a cameo in the main story, and on my main I knocked out every Star Fortress, recruited almost every contact (killed Broonmark, Skadge, and Kaliyo), and got every Alliance contact up to 20. I'm honestly curious what will happen on my alts who I was less thorough on.

Specific plot bits put in spoilers since I think there's a few newbies in this thread playing for the first time.

Finally putting a blaster bolt in Arcann's head was long overdue, and I liked that it wasn't even a DS decision.

Killing Senya made me feel like an rear end in a top hat, but I wasn't sure I'd get to kill Arcann if I was nice to her. Worth it.

Serious Malachor V vibes from Nathema, even if the place ended up underwhelming. The only mission or setting I would have liked to see more of, and seen more done with.

Generally light side main or not, punching Saresh and slapping a shock collar on Lorman was worth it.

Valk was an underwhelming final boss. The holocron thingy felt very silly and arbitrary, and my health never dipped below 90% while I slowly ground down his HP. The spirit tag-team of Arcann and Vaylin was much harder.

So I as well decided to hop back in and check out where the story had gone, I had much less to do, as my char was 70 already, so it was just some Pub vs Imp shenanigans. I liked that there was finally a conclusion to Lana's romance arc and it was nice and sweet. I'm at the point where you help Malgus capture Lance Hendrickson and can't find any new missions so I guess I'm caught up. But I actually found the hardest choice the game has ever presented to me, in Jaesa's return. :v:

You see I've always liked her since the very beginning and while Lana is great, she always felt like the apology space lesbian. And then Jaesa's back, and it turns out she's madly in love with your warrior. Leaving me unable to choose what to do, it's a combo of in character and out of character issues. Like for years if you wanted to be a space lesbian, Lana was the only game in town. And they go and make her ending very serious and cute and committed. But then they're like "Hey we should've done this loving years ago, but we're fixing our mistake...after you're probably already committed to the only lesbian in space."

This is super meta but realistically there wont be many, if any, more interactions with Jaesa in the story going forward, whereas Lana will probably stay relevant.

There's a bunch of miniskirts with tights. Lana Beniko, Noble Attendant, Last Handmaiden, etc.

I haven't played in a while so i don't know if they fixed it, but Regal Apparel is supposed to also have tights but has always been bugged and on female character it's a miniskirt with bare legs.

Resort Swimwear is shorts, there may be others. The covert energy pants also hide your leg armor and give you your character's underwear shorts. You can sometimes pair that with more elaborate belts for a cool look.

It would be fun if they were at least hilariously overpowered and could strafe like the Iokath one.

Another question: does it matter what strength the alliance specialists are and how many alliance alert companions I've recruited when going into Eternal Throne? And do the companion alerts stick around in case I want to recruit them later?

Medullah

Yes almost all alliance alerts stay active even after you start Ossus. The one exception is Arcann, who you can only recruit if you spare him in the story, which you don't do in the default choices.

I use Naga Sadow lower robes for a skirt and Vrook Lamar chest paired with dancer bottoms works as a mini dress for me because the dancer flap thing doesn't show up with it.

Also Revered Master bottom armor looks like a skirt/tights, especially when dyed.

XIV is also my main mmo, and it does the pretty pretty princess endgame right. It has a decent story, but not as compelling as SWTOR's. I think probably because your warrior/inquisitor/etc feels like your version, while the warrior of light is just the warrior of light. And is also bland and stupid and just...such a non entity for being the main character of the story. It'd be better without them being the focus imo. :v:

Since I'm a silly person who doesn't always finish an expansion on one character before setting another through, I went through the final fight with Vaylin on my Consular today, and found it incredibly hard. For my Agent (deception operative) it was a complete pushover, largely thanks to a buff I had called Valkorion's Approval. On my Consular (infiltration shadow) I didn't have that buff. It was brutal and I died many, many times before finally getting it.

I'd rather not do that again, and I know if you take the DS choice with Lord Dramath he shows up to help you in that fight. I'm willing to eat some DS points in exchange for not making that fight a nightmare, so does taking that option with Dramath lock you into eating kittens or some such or can you just tell him "Thanks for the help, bye now" after the fight?

For as much as my Sith are so Lightside that they fart holy clouds of holiness, I'm still likely to take the Darkside points for the fight. I rationalize it as after everything they've gone through with Zakuul, they want this poo poo over and done with.

I generally play mostly pure LS. There's a few DS options, like punching Saresh and slapping a shock collar on Lorman, that I always take.

But yeah, that fight was rough enough on my shadow I have no problem justifying my characters taking any edge they can get against Valk.
