Yeah they're dull but at least it feels like you're helping instead of sitting there mashing heal buttons and being bored off your rear end unless an AOE comes your way.

I had a really awful thought the other day, which is that it would take very little work to turn WoW discipline priests into a better realized Final Fantasy 14 style healer than any of the actual FFXIV healer jobs-- or at least one with a more engaging DPS rotation. Like, replace the shield spam CD with an OGCD tank heal plus take their ground target DR bubble off the GCD and you're already a considerable way there.

The main difference is ffxiv healing emphatically doesn’t do healing through doing damage. It’s always been a trade off, especially when you consider how cleric stance used to work. It wouldn’t be as little work as you think.

No, see, but they should. That's my point: discipline priests are a better take on the idea of a healer who nukes stuff because it intermingles the two ideas.

Basically my problem is that there's no interplay between the two things healers in XIV should be doing-- DPSing should feed into healing, and healing should feed into DPSing. There should be synergy and flow between the two sides; right now both sides are sequestered from each other, and I think it ends up making them feel shallow (especially the DPS side).

It's both completely believable and probably for the best. Assize being WHM's main OGCD AoE heal and a high potency AoE OGCD damage spell created a conflict: you wanted to burn Assize as soon as possible for the damage effect, but you also wanted to sit on Assize until you could get good value out of its AoE heal. Shifting that damage on to other sources instead of leaving it in a state of constant, internal friction is a good move.

Frankly, there's no use in getting too worked up over potential changes until the liveletter, both because we have no idea if they're true (though there's a reasonable probability they are) and because contextless action changes don't tell us anything meaningful about the state of jobs beyond them being different.

This is kinda one of the big issues with designing a healer, especially in terms of dealing damage. Healers have a lot to focus on. They usually have their own specific mechanics, need to have at least some idea of what is coming, and have to keep an eye on the constantly shifting trouble of dumbass players who stand in the bad. The more complex a healer damage rotation is, the worse it will get if they're in a suboptimal group. (read: 80% of the time.) The current design basically allows for relatively low-effort DPSing while also allowing healers who have trouble focusing on a lot of things to do their job. If you make it more complex it'll be more fun to play (IMO) but you're going to run into the situation where you get a lot more people playing it far below optimal. Like yeah "honest healers" suck but there's a midpoint where you have 'average' people who will throw in some DPS when not healing and if you design around a rotation you risk either having them DPSing worse than they could or healing worse than they could, especailly since we're going into level 80 content which (ideally) should be complex and involved.

Cleric Stance always was a thrill to use back then since I was inexperienced and usually like one second after switching to DPS mode a tankbuster would hit and it would be several seconds of "FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK".

That said, I like that it's not a toggle anymore because as was already mentioned, it allows for new players to get into trying to do damage more easily as the risk is gone of accidently switching at the worst moment. I only got experience as a WHM, but it's much easier now to just try and keep up the DoTs and toss in the occasional Stone while being able to still heal if need be at a moments notice. I kinda wish the new Cleric Stance had a bigger modifier for damage though since 5% extra damage doesn't really seem all that great on a temporary buff.

Also, I hope that Assize leak is fake. Currently it has multiple uses as you can use it for DPS against groups or times where you need to take out multiple targets in a boss fight or as a quick quick group heal if you need to heal people up and also can't really Medica. If they took out the damage then it would remove some of the complexity of it. Then again, I am also sad they took away the damage on Fluid Aura, it being oGCD meant you could just toss one out after an Aero/Aero2 to bridge the time before you could use another skill.

(Also, almost every mob in dungeons and such being immune to Fluid Aura is the worst thing. Lemme try and time things so I push away the enemy just as it dies and slides off in it's death animation again Squeenix)

Wrong. I just found out as I went to activate/upgrade today that nope. It won't work. So now it's a choice between my money and my time. Do I buy the complete collection again in Aussie Dollarydoo's with no discount and just... take the L? Or do I start over on a new account, the past few weeks in the game being worthless.

IIRC item codes aren't regioned, only the codes for the game/expacks are, but someone would have to confim that

Goddamn, I just read up on the loot rules for Savage content since I have been toying with the idea of trying it out. So not only is there a real possible chance it would take me longer to get some Omega gear than it takes for the expansion to come out, but also there is some really weird rules to punish you if you do them out of order or help out a buddy if you already cleared it for the week?

I sorta get what they were trying to do to make this something you can't just grind in a few afternoons like I did with the Omicron gear, but isn't there really a different way to handle this that doesn't potentially cause moments of "Welp, one of you 8 has done the next one before this one, guess only one person walks out with a single ring this week"

Maaan, I kinda had been looking forward to get myself some dyeable versions of that gear since it looks pretty neat, but guess it ain't really happening :(

Alphascape loot is unlocked now. It doesn't matter if someone's cleared the fight (or a later one) each week now, as long as you clear there are two chests. Also everyone gets a datalog upon clearing, and with sufficient datalogs (4-8 depending on what you want to buy) from the appropriate fight you can just trade them for omega gear or upgrade items for tomestones instead of having to get a drop. You buy O9S stuff with Alphascape Datalog v1.0, O10S stuff with Alphascape Datalogs v2.0, etc..

But on release, yeah. 1-4 people having already cleared cuts it down to 1 chest (which those 1-4 people can't roll on) and 5-8 cuts it down to no chests; though everyone gets a datalog the first time they clear a fight each week, no matter whether anyone else has cleared or not.
