Money laundering in the prairies would explain why the cabin market has exploded and now there's just tons of these 1 million dollar lakefront properties. I've heard rumours that rural Chinese restaurants used to exist almost exclusively to launder money. Every tiny loving nowhere town in MB had a Chinese place, even before they got chains like McDonald's, apparently the families that ran them were paid to do it as a money laundering thing in return they'd get a PR eventually.

The Chinese restaurant in the Teulon hotel is one of the best I've ever been to, same with the Hong Kong Cafe in Dauphin before it changed hands.

It's all hearsay, I can't remember where I read it but it was somewhere where they were talking about immigration scams. Supposedly an older way to game the system before the current real estate thing really opened up. It really makes you wonder though, when you drive through a totally dead town like Gypsumville and the only thriving business is the Chinese place, I mean it's more plausible that the nearby reserves keep it in business but it's fun to imagine something more nefarious.

The absolute worst Chinese food I have ever had was in a prairie town that was literally just a Chinese restaurant and a gas station at an intersection. I'm 95% sure their sweet and sour sauce was straight up Strawberry Quik syrup.
