I live in hipster NYC and I still think "breakfast just costs $15, full stop" is a ludicrous thing to say. You can get a sausage egg and cheese roll for $3.50 in any bodega.

Fear is the glue that holds society together. It's what makes people suppress their worst impulses. Fear is power.

And at the end of fear, oblivion.

Bodegas aren't sit-in restaurants, which is entirely relevant to pricing ie you're not just paying for the food itself but the spot in the restaurant, service workers etc. Its weird to see people here uncritically repeating Fox-esque critiques of whatever they consider overpriced millenial food.

Yeah they are protecting trump from bad scores. God drat I wish I were one tenth as coddled as donald loving trump. Everyone on Earth seems to exist just to protect him. Of course the first couple paragraphs are about what a loving and kind and good person the man who voted for trump is.
Now his wife is permanently barred from ever even entering the United States again. Even if her five year old has cancer.

You voted for trump, you're scum.

Oh and has he learned his lesson?

quote:

He refers to immigrants as “illegals,” a term many advocates consider dehumanizing. He is indifferent about Trump’s “big, beautiful wall.” He suggests immigrants who have lived in the country without authorization should pay $10,000 fines.
He's an "immigration activist" in as much as he wants his wife back. Fuk everyone else.

quote:

Immigrants who have a clear criminal record, he believes, should be ranked in order of priority.

“At the top of the list would be immigrants with an American spouse and American children,” he said. “And then go down to maybe an immigrant with an American spouse but no children and then just the children who are illegal.”
loving scum.

quote:

Sometimes he feels stupid or duped or betrayed. But then he thinks back to how he didn’t vote for himself personally but for the greater good — for what he sees as the “noble” cause of outlawing abortion.

“Was it a bad decision for my family? Yes,” he said. “Was it a bad decision for our country? I can’t say. Sometimes you can’t just think about yourself. You have to think about the broader picture.… I feel like God will bless my decision.

After surgery to remove Ashton’s kidney, there was radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Ashton screamed every time he had blood taken.

“Why isn’t mommy here?” he asked.

“The government doesn’t want her here,” Jason tried to explain. “Mommy messed up years ago and we’re trying to get her back.”

Frantic, Cecilia considered trying to cross the border again. But Jason urged her to follow the law. God will reward us, he said.

They applied for humanitarian parole, assuming everything would be resolved in a few days. Even the most hard-hearted immigration official, they figured, would make an exception for a 5-year-old with cancer.

Nearly two months passed before they got word: Parole was denied.

...
Jason tries not to let the partisan digs get him down, preferring to believe that people just don’t understand.

He probably wouldn’t vote for Trump again, he said. Still, he isn’t really sure that he made a mistake.

Sometimes he feels stupid or duped or betrayed. But then he thinks back to how he didn’t vote for himself personally but for the greater good — for what he sees as the “noble” cause of outlawing abortion.

How can anyone who's had any interaction with USCIS be so naive to believe they'd grant humanitarian anything? Also apparently no level of negative reinforcement can get someone to reconsider their vote. This notion that people who voted directly against their own interests did it for the "greater good" seems to be common for burned Trump supporters.

It's understandable maybe why the general population doesn't get that USCIS as an organization is more likely to try deport someone over a paperwork error than to grant humanitarian parole to a mother who's state-side child is critically ill. Citizens generally don't have to interact directly with USCIS and can be excused for not knowing about their shenanigans.

This UPS guy had regular contact with them due to his wife's illegal status and somehow convinced himself that they'd get a shred of accommodation after she'd been deported. This goes beyond the usual news stories about people surprised that their own face was eaten by the leopard face-eating party, to just an inability to recognize obvious patterns. Maybe the LA Times just wrote a really long article about a dumb person.

Look at that "Proper Breakfast". Compare that to buying the ingredients in a store and preparing them yourself. You're willing to pay at least a 900% markup for the privilege of not having to cook your own food or clean up afterward, and that's at grocery-store prices, which no profitable restaurant is paying. You are the bourgeoisie, KillHour.

2-3 good eggs, a 3 or 4 slices of actual smoked bacon (and not that cheapo liquid smoked poo poo) and 3/4 a lb of yukon gold or good red potatoes and some bread and butter is going to cost is actually going to cost 3-5 bucks most places. Add in the amount the restaurant pays for rent in any visible location, taxes, labor, and insurance and the margin on that breakfast is probably about a dollar. They're really hoping that you pay a bunch of money for drinks with breakfast because that's where you actually get 900% margins

Maybe we shouldn't be spending time trying to understand an idiot. He's an idiot. His idiot views and those of his ilk got his wife deported, but he specifically thought his wife would never be deported because bad things don't happen to people like him.

The media tries to humanize people like this and there's just no appealing to them. He's going to vote for Trump again in the election and hope that "God changes his heart" because that's basically what every evangelical I've spoken to (about half a dozen) has said to me. If God came down to talk to Trump and disagreed with him in any way, Trump would call him a low energy loser and fake news or try to suck up to him.

I don't give a gently caress what evangelicals believe. They're the opposition. They believe in heretical forms of Christianity and Christ would have pulled a muscle in his whipping arm as he drives these people out of their churches right before he's arrested and/or shot for being too brown.
