The Great Twist
When I was working on my zodiac weapon way back in 2.whatever, I was on the step that needed the rare drops from the dungeon bosses. They all went smoothly except for AV, which took more than a weekend chainrunning that poo poo. And even then:

I just ran Neverreap somewhat recently and it's not too bad. Unless you get a braindead group that screws up the totem boss constantly.

Another blue ribbon for Hecarim.
I enjoy AV even though the first and third chunks of it are kind of awful. Coincounter is a joy though, because there's almost always that one person that's forgotten he doesn't do AoE indicators. Watching them go splat never fails to get a chuckle out of me.

when I heal AV i get annoyed by how often DPS just stand there and eat the coincounter's gaze attacks. it's never a huge crisis but every preventable esuna or heal I throw out is one less damage spell dangit

Qarn objectively isn't a bad dungeon by ARR standards, but when I was leveling NIN and got past level 35 the game just basically said HEY I BET YOU LIKE QARN and gave it to me as my roulette for a week.

Even now it's coming up about 40-50% of the time.

I get Sastasha about six times in seven, but Qarn also turns up a ton because there's that post-50 quest where you have to go back and run a level 35 dungeon for some reason.

They should have kept the quest that made you run a guildhest and dumped the one sending you into Qarn IMO.

AV is a legitimately good dungeon, Coincounter is always fun especially if you're tanking because even if everyone else dies you can solo it effortlessly. Also, the first and last boss don't have the same mechanics; the last boss doesn't apply a dot and uses its stacking debuff in a different way.

The worst dungeons are Darkhold and Cutter's Cry for being the blandest slogs possible.

AV is probably the best dungeon out of the group "dungeons that got ported from 1.0 instead of made brand new", a category that is entirely crap dungeons.

I honestly really enjoy AV as WHM. Also SAM and BARD. Big pulls and poo poo to do.

Also story for the day. Tank was doing tiny pulls in Arboretum Hard. I asked for bigger pulls he said lol no. I pulled everything. He ragequit. We still survived. Big dick WHM tank.

Cutter's Cry is the worst dungeon because the boss will wipe most groups once or twice.

What? CC is so easy. It's not an exceptional dungeon but it's quick, it's fine, and the manticore/chimera is a good boss.

iirc, you can stun or silence the big hits that tends to kill people. Even if your party members all die, the boss's auto attacks are weak enough that it's relatively easy to solo or duo it.

I have completed Cutter's Cry twice in roulette. The first time everyone wiped on Chimera twice due to not paying attention to the attack patterns. The second time I ran it, I ended up soloing the Chimera as MCH because everyone else wiped due to ignoring the attack patterns. The Chimera is a poorly designed boss, IMO.

Also the rest of it is terminally boring and ugly.

3/3 bosses have prolonged invuln phases. The bees are back. The tornadoes are annoying. And it's in the worst HW zone (or second worst, whatever). It's just the pits.

Stacking debuff -> eat fruit to not die. The 3rd boss has adds kinda sorta, but that's the difference and it's not a very big one. This game has way too many great dungeons for it to suffer Aurum Vale being included in that list.

Funny how no one's mentioned Stone Vigil as being a slog.

Stone Vigil's a sanity/role check. If everyone uses their cooldowns liberally and the tank pulls things carefully it's pretty ok. The only really dangerous part of it is the ice sprite hallways and the one optional room because the sprite's blizzard spell hits like a truck.

It also not being a slog may be because when I ran it a whole bunch, usually what would happen is that people would mess up the first pull and immediately ragequit. All of the groups that could actually handle the first pull made it through smoothly. It was a very binary experience :v:

I remember liking the Ala Mhigan maiming body for drg and used it for a long while. There is something kinda funky w/ what there is of sleeves, iirc, but using the gloves from the set and dying them the same color as the body make them look like elbow length gloves.

E: Having looked it up, it was me using velveteen half gloves, not the Ala Mhigan set gloves.

Run level 70 dungeons until the end of time. Use Mendacity and Centurio Seals to buy lower level items (330/360). Accessories are all cheap, and there are cloth belts you can buy. Shields are cheap (I think) for ARM.

Meld stuff before you desynth it. Buy a tinker's calm potion and bacon broth. Each materia adds like 4% to your chances, plus the bonuses from the pot and food.

The roulettes should just not choose dungeons that aren't within X levels of the party average or something, that was if I go in fully stacked with my 70 crew we don't end up melting down when it picks tam-tara for the 100th time

That defeats the entire point of the dungeon roulette, which is to force max level players to help out new level 20 players who need to clear the dungeon for the MSQ. If it was based on the average party level then the low level dungeons wouldn't come up, ever, and it would become impossible for new players to level up.

They don't want you doing roulettes with a full 70 crew.
