Yeah we seriously need to rethink how we handle time off for parents in this country. And while I think the first part of that needs to be ensuring that mothers get paid maternity leave, paternity leave is pretty drat important from what I've seen. Having a kid absolutely wrecks a body for a period, I don't think many people realize how major of a deal it really is. So to just go "take some time off and take care of screaming, making GBS threads, puking infant and keep it from dying all by yourself" really isn't a great solution.

I have known my close friend [45/F] for a year and we have been close since I met her. I started sleeping around with her and I see her everyday, I even sleep at her house on the weekends. She and I hang out a lot, we watch movies, shows, and she always wants me to come over.

We’ve created a really close bond with each other and I have real strong feelings for her. I’m not completely sure if she feels the same way, but not too long ago during sex she also told me that she loved me.

She bought a house really far away. So she’s moving upstate and it’s a 7 hour drive away since she bought a home up there with her daughter [25/F]. She told me the news and she also seemed very sad and she even cried a little bit. She’s helped me a lot, she helped me get throigh school, she helped me a lot with personal problems. And she helped me get into a good university for this fall.
I don’t know how it’s going to be like when she’s gone and she is already moving at the end of this month. I don’t think I can handle this. She did say we could stay in touch and visit each other occasionally, but things aren’t going to be the same. Is there really anything I can do about it? What should I do?

TL;DR My FWB/close friend is moving upstate and I am having a really hard time coping with knowing I might not see her again. Please help me

Depending on the couple's strategy, paternity leave can be used directly after mom goes back to work to maximize the amount of time the baby has with a full time parent. At least in CA each parent can take six weeks paid+six weeks unpaid which means that child will get the first six months of their life with mom then dad before both have to go to work. That's being pretty optimistic though, since childbirth can be hard on many women.

What sucks is how much pressure parents have to return to work, not just dads but moms as well. My sister in law only took a few weeks off after she had a kid because her work threw such a massive guilt trip for her to come back sooner and my brother was unemployed at the time.

My wife had a difficult labor and was pushing for a solid 4 hours. After our son was born she was pretty much out of commission for the two weeks that I had for paternity leave and I was on full time duty. It was taxing, even with a kid that was very easy by infant standards. It's hard to imagine her pulling that job solo during the day with the shape she was in.

Correct. Without going into more detail than necessary, the first few weeks of my leave were not in fact taking care of the baby at all (as he was still in the NICU) but helping my wife convalesce and recover from the birth--that is, doing literally everything she wasn't able to from a bed. No idea how we would have handled this at all had we been in the Midwest, other than going broke and potentially into crippling debt.

Yeah I suspect we're going to look back and realized how much it cost us not to support parents during and after childbirth. I realize theres limits to what we're willing to do, but if you step back for a moment and think about the profound effect something like postpartum depression has on someone ability to re-enter the work force (and let's face it, we basically treat all mental health with an attitude of "oh just get over it, everyone gets sad jeeze") and it's not hard to imagine that it's costing us a lot as a society, both in terms of happiness and simple economic value.

My dad is a Trump supporter. I am not. I'm not going to go into his completely backwards and insane political views here, because it's not pertinent to the question.

He tells me that when he dies (he's in his 50s now, so it's going to be a while) he's going to put his savings in a trust fund, and I can only have the money if I "don't do anything that contradicts what this country is founded on," which is extremely vague. Knowing him, what this really means is "don't be a libtard."

I asked him how they would know. He said I will have to provide voting records to prove that I'm not voting for any "leftist" candidates.

Can he legally ask them to do that?

Predictably, the Trump supporter wants punitive measures that only exist to bully and hurt people worse off than him. Also predictably: they are ineffective, as the only record of a person's voting is if they voted, not how they voted.

All the son has to do is register as an Independent and lie about his vote if necessary.

This guy's whole profile is a doozy. He just can't stop trying to fight people and getting his rear end beat.

Where do I go from here? Assaulted customer at work.

quote:

Hey guys.

My life continues to spiral downwards. Here’s the story.

I have been going through a lot lately. Like a lot. Let me tell you about my previous assault story first. So a while ago my girlfriend dumped me very harshly. Honestly I’m still not over it and it’s been months. All of this stuff is in my post history if you guys want proof. Anyways so basically after we broke up she was blackmailing me and I had to give her money every month. So one time when I was there her new boyfriend was saying stuff to me so I tackled him. He easily threw me off and punched me a few times. I grabbed his leg and he hit his head on the table and busted it open. I jumped up and punched him as many times as I could but it wasn’t really doing much and as he was trying to get up my ex girlfriend ran up and kicked me in the nuts. Then he punched me until I was basically passed out. We all got arrested and are waiting for court dates. On top of that there’s just been so much more going on.

So yesterday I was at work at my job at a grocery store I will not name. I was on break and a customer was trying to ask me a question but I couldn’t hear him because I had headphones in. So he grabbed my arm as I was walking by and yanked me towards him. Now I had no idea what was going on I just thought someone was attacking me so I whipped around and grabbed his shirt collar and slammed him against the shelf while ripping out my headphones. He pushed me back and slammed me against the other shelf across the isle and then we got into kinda a pushing match until he put me into a headlock and body slammed me into the ground and followed it up with an elbow to my nose. He then lost his poo poo screaming at me telling me that he should call the cops for me attacking him.

My manager knows that I’ve been going through a lot and he watched the security footage with the man and told the man that if he would like him to call the cops on him for attacking his employee he is fine with that. The man finally decided that he wasn’t going to get police involved. My manager said even though it wasn’t exactly my fault and that he knows what I’m going through that I’m on very thin ice and that I’m lucky no one else was in the isle cause I would’ve been fired if another customer saw. He said I need to pay more attention to my surroundings.

I don’t see how any of that is my fault? AITA?

A note about that one: he was awaiting a court date for another assault.

I (19m) attacked my friend (20m) this morning and he beat me up now I have no one left. What do I do?

quote:

Hey guys.

So this morning my friend and I got into a fight. Last night we were talking about political stuff. Now I’m a bleeding heart liberal and he is a die hard republican. He constantly shows me these stupid videos on YouTube by StevenCrowder and last night there was one where the guy was saying there’s only 2 genders. We got into an argument and then it ended. This morning he was still at my house and he told me he can’t believe that I think the way I do. We got pretty heated and then I started punching him. And then he tried to hold me back so I punched him again and then he unloaded on me and started punching me repeadtly until I stopped and then I tried to attack him again and then he put me in a headlock and held it until I calmed down. He left and said not to talk to him anymore. He said that I’ve gone insane and he doesn’t know how to help me anymore.

I don’t know what to do. I have no one except my kid at this point. I keep getting into trouble and fights and my life just keeps spiraling into nothing. I’m so sad all of the time. I miss my ex so much. Where do I go from here?

I do not have full custody of my kid as of right now. My parents do not think it is safe and they are the caretaker of my child until my mental health gets better. I was raising him alone for a bit but not at this moment I’ve been honest with them about what’s been going on in my life and they think I need a therapist or something and they have the child.

FINAL UPDATE: my girlfriend is falling for another guy, what do I do?

quote:

Okay guys.

This is it.

Court has happened. Here are the sentences Me: I have to take an anger management class and that’s it Ex: 14 years and 2 years probation Ex’s man: 6 years and 2 years probation

I still love her and I still miss her. I wish none of this happened. I wish I was laying in bed cuddling with her. She probably strongly regrets doing all the things she did now. Our child will grow up without a mom. The kid is with my parents at the moment because I am not in the right mental state yet. I’m having breakdowns daily. I’m sad and broken. I don’t know where to go from here. All I can do is try to move forward.

I’ll be around. If needed I’ll post. But I’ll always be here guys. Have a good day. If you’re in a relationship you’re really lucky.

There's so much more and it's all so, so wack.
