Am I misremembering a King story (possibly from Nightmares & Dreamscapes) where a guy starts dying because he committed murder? It's like how a bumblebee dies if it tries to attack, and this was some sort of drug in the water that was meant to stop people killing each other. The story was a letter from the guy as he loses his mind after killing his brother.

Am I just making this all up?

EDIT: Nevermind, it was the aforementioned 'The End of the Whole Mess', except minus the 'this will kill you if you kill', and moreso just 'this will kill you'.

So where the gently caress am I getting this bumblebee/die-if-you-kill memory? Is that sort of thing mentioned in the story? Man, it's been too long.

If I'm being honest I'd have to say I enjoyed The Dark Tower, but it's a movie that's really stuck in no man's land in terms of finding an audience. To really enjoy it I think you have to be a big fan of the book series, so that you can notice where the movie is doing little nods to the books and also where the movie is diverging from the books. But then, it diverges from the books in some pretty frustrating ways, so for a fan that can also be alienating. So it's gonna probably piss you off either way, whether you've never read a single page of the books or if you're a Dark Tower fanatic.

The way Roland takes out Walter in the end was really cool though, hard to imagine anyone not enjoying that bit.

Bumblebees feature prominently in the genius brother's explanation of his plan, although IIRC they're only mentioned in passing as a contrast to the hornets that he's using to demonstrate the drug's effects.

I've heard a few people say this but I absolutely think it would work.

Get good child actors (priority #1), handle the executions tastefully, weave in some back stories, write sharp dialog and direct it well and it think it would be great. Obviously, there are no budget constraints.

Hey now, there's plenty of subtle moments in that film. Like that scene where he goes and pleads with Angelica Huston (the Russian mob leader who raised and trained him) for help. There's a whole bunch of paintings in the room which seem to have aggressive, violent themes but have a look at the painting immediately behind her, almost hidden from view:

There's also the scene in the New York public library where he gets attacked by a guy who doesn't buy into the reputation of the Baba Yaga and learns the hard way by being force fed a book on Russian folk tales. :v:

Oh yeds I agree, some great performances and great realisations of locations. Not a good film at all though. I laughed out loud when the credits rolled while she's on the way to asriel with Roger.

They should just make a Dark Tower show based on one of Roland's loops that is different from the books. Casually hint from time to time, out of nowhere, that things seem familiar

That would be their best excuse for diverging from the books. Also, I want a whole season about young Roland. I might be in the minority that loved Wizard and Glass because of that seemingly pointless jaunt into his past.

Absolutely, the series is perfect for a show like that because you could play around with expectations by making it clear to the audience that this is not the same version of events they read in the books. It would make for a really interesting dynamic for book fans where you're not only watching to see the books adapted on-screen, you're also keeping an eye out for changes and then trying to predict how those changes might effect events down the line.

Rage could make a poignant movie but man no one's gonna touch it with a ten foot pole and King's never gonna license it. I'd like to see someone redo Running Man, too. You could easily apply its manhunt theme to social media harrassment. If I ever come into movie production cash I'm funding that, under the condition that it keeps the ending.

You think no one will ever make Rage into a movie because it involves gun violence at a school but think that a remake of The Running Man, a novel that ends with someone flying a plane into a skyscraper, would be totally feasible??

Ya. I rewatched the film recently as I'd finished a reread of the books and it has some very great parts but doesn't really work as a film. Dakota Blue Richards had the worst cockney accent I've ever heard and she drops it in the latter half of the film and does much better from then on.

I watched maybe the first three episodes of season four and found them depressing and unfunny, and it was glaringly obvious how often the cast weren't even in the same room when filming.
