Their healer changes sound like they're either going to make it into WoW-style healspam or homogenize all three healers to be extremely similar, and neither of those sounds great. The part where they're driving a bulldozer through my favorite DPS job to appease the CLASS FANTASY idiots isn't making me happy either. Seems like a reasonable conclusion to reach based on the many gameplay changes we've seen so far.

A lot of the changes aren't wild shakeups though. Until the embargo is over, we won't really know the extent to which most classes got changed or added to. And the MCH rework was known about for a while and people have been saying it would have to be a fairly substantial rework since the things people didn't like (unfun heat management while leveling, Gauss barrel, wildfire not doing anything if the boss jumps) are also somewhat core mechanics. I'm gonna go ahead and just say everyone should maybe wait till the embargo is over instead of assuming their favorite class has been ruined based on a live translation of a three sentence summary of what the devs hoped to accomplish with the changes they made.

Having an SSD is probably a really huge factor, though.

I don't really think those are the only two options for healers, mainly because scholar is still a pet class and AST cards are a pretty unique mechanic. WHM does look banal as hell, though, but that's kind of its wheelhouse.

I think the perfect scenario would have been them leaving MCH alone and just adding a straight up gunslinger class that was just gun with bullet mechanics because making the only gun class be such a niche class is weird, but I do think the MCH stuff they showed off looked pretty cool. The only reason I'm not worried about them acting like WoW devs and ripping up classes willy nilly is they've been sitting on MCH being how it was for 2 full expansions, and the complaints about it have been around the entire time. It wasn't a kneejerk reaction or lightly made decision.

People generally believe either the sky is falling or they've won the lottery after these pre expansion live letters, I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. At the very least, you can wait until next week when the embargo lifts and get the reactions people had from actually playing the classes instead of just hearing about the changes without any numbers or context.

Also I preordered ShB pretty much day 1, but that's mainly because I knew for a fact I would be playing it with friends come launch. Not preordering games is still the better policy, so just don't preorder and wait. I think you'd still be able to get early access even if you preorder it on the 27th of next month?

Healing homogenized in so much as they want each healer to be able to put out roughly equivalent HPS, sure, which I don't think is entirely a bad thing. But how they get at that healing and what they have on the dps and support side are still pretty different as far as anyone can tell. Its just an extension of what they talked about with tanks and DPS, they want any tank to be able to either MT or OT, and it sounds like they've gutted the damage type debuffs on DPS, along with the changes they made to the party bonuses and LB it all speaks to a new underlying philosophy on party composition. That being you don't need to give a poo poo about party composition anymore, because everyone is going to be pretty much interchangeable and what you play will be a matter of taste rather than what the group needs in most cases

We'll see how it actually works but idk about all the doom and gloom.

Summoner seems to have a massive identity crisis at its core since its sort of a pet class, sort of a DoT class, sort of a build and spend Nuke class all kludged together. Also it keeps a bunch of random healing and utility so it can share the base class with Scholar.

Also only having Ifrit/Garuda/Titan/Bahamut is lame and they really should at least give us fun Ramuh/Leviathan/Shiva egis. Even if they're just costumes.

Also gently caress it give us a Good King Moogle Mog XII summon :colbert:

A repost from gathering thoughts on a discord, but, having at least watched that one segment for analysis:

It looks like White Mage gets:
A new single target holy attack spell.
A new single target holy damage over time spell.
(Both may just be upgrades to Stone/Aero)

Lilies are now discrete spenders instead of an all-at-once resource, it appears.
One is used to do an instant spot heal (?).
One is used to do an instant medica.
Immediately after the medica is a Plenary Indulgence cast, likely to show that the AOE generates Confession stacks.

Right after THAT, the WHM turns on their Holy Wings.
Then they hardcast... Medica II, I believe?, then the instant AOE again, and then immediately cast Plenary Indulgence again after that (Wings probably resets or otherwise reduces the recast time on Plenary Indulgence?).
Each time one of the instant lily actions is cast, the (spider lily?) on the back of the job gauge blossoms a bit more, until the third one is cast and it's full open, which is when the WHM casts a final new holy nuke.

In all from the video, three new attack spells, two new heal spells, and a new utility state.
I'm not sure what the meaning of the gauge slowly gaining a glowing aura from bottom to top is, unless that's just the amount of time before the regular lilies rebloom (the effect doesn't start until one is used).

Will have to see along with the rest of the jobs when the embargo is up but mostly it seems evolutionary with a more active role for the Healing Gauge.

They way Lilies seem to work now is almost exactly the same as Aetherflow for Summoner/Scholar. The only difference being that they appear one at a time at regular intervals instead of 3 at once every 40 seconds or whatever.

I am curious about what the new changes for summoners mean for the class though, currently SMN is very heavily reliant on OGCDs to maximize damage during a Bahamut phase. With the changes made to Aetherflow we don't know the fate of Fester/Painflare/the like. They were vague on details and we didn't see much actual SMN play (they even cut off the job abilities thing before Phoenix ran out), so there's a lot up in the air.

I'm also going to be a little bit annoyed if say Egi Assault 1 is the three moves listed because those all do different things. They should really group the egi moves into say "aoe move" and "buff move" etc. Aerial Slash, Earthen Armor, and Crimson Cyclone don't belong on the same button, it should be Aerial Slash, Mountain Buster, and Flaming Crush.

Raise Chris Coons' taxes so that we can have Medicare for All.

Those abilities might even do different things now, or you don’t have things like mountain buster anymore because titan can’t tank for you and does something different. I got the impression that the pets will be more like fairies, where you change between them depending on whether you need the healing or the damage. If titan is for putting up a damage shield or something it’d make more sense.

I feel like the mantra everyone should have for the next week is “We won’t know until next week” because we really won’t.

Datamining from the benchmark on abilities.
It's not conclusive on anything, and some things that are missing may have simply been replaced with a similar skill with a new name (e.g. SMN clearly had a bar of sorts, but it's no longer the ACN/SCH Aetherflow, so that skill's been "removed"), but it's something to look at.

Looking at that SCH got gutted, so I'm curious as to what's happening with the base ACN class.

With the whole pure healing thing, now that protect is gone that's an increase in damage taken, and with the devs saying all the combat formulas have been adjusted, it wouldn't surprise me if they are going to be forcing healers to heal more as everyone now mitigates less damage via defense stats, which means smart healers will be rewarded with more DPS time, and bad healers will have less DPS time.

It's definitely a reasonable response, they are trying to streamline a lot of the classes due to skill bloat (no enmity combos for tanks, pet changes, etc) and I feel like this is just part of the plan, where they remove corner case skills in AST and SCH to make it more streamlined for "pure healing". I think the translation is poor regarding the slideshow and probably best to wait and see when the public get it's hands on it and see it played in game before we jump to conclusions. Personally, I'm less angry at that and more at the streamlining of job quests but I understand why, I just thought they were among the most interesting parts of the game.
