TheBigAristotle posted:These things look dumber each time I see them. I'm enjoying the suppressors despite their appearances. AP -2 autocannons are nothing to sneeze at and scare light vehicles/marine equivalents. Eliminators are a good, cheap fire magnet but their heavy support slot makes them a little less good. Infiltrators are stupid expensive but I've been seeing some luck running them as a minimum squad I can drop on/near a central objective and force my opponent to deal with while the rest of my army catches up. As for the HQs, the only one I've seen consistent, good use out of is the Librarian. The Obscuation discipline has some really nice debuff spells to throw on important models.

I expect the Sisters of Battle release to be a disappointment anyway, considering the way Games Workshop betrayed the ork community with only two vehicle kits in Orktober.

Everything they've shown for the new SoB has been leagues ahead of the current ancient range.

The thing that bugs me about the sisters is that they're meant to be wearing power armour, but they just seem to be wearing ornate plate armour with a big backpack on. I thought power armour was meant to be so heavy you can't move properly in it without it augmenting your strength?

Perhaps not the best time to link this one but finally finished a model after like two months of inactivity, in this case Amalyn Shadowguide from Blackstone Fortress that I picked up as stand alone a while ago. Problem is now that I'm all out of primer. Not sure if I want to wait for the new Contrast ones or pick up a new can of Black asap.

No, because the fluff has included e.g. Inquisitors using lighter sorts of power armor for ages. The whole point of power armor in most science fiction, all the way back to when Robert Heinlen invented it in the book Starship Troopers, is that it’s armor with powered moving components designed to augment the user’s strength, not heavier armor that requires prodigious user strength. Marine power armor being so huge that you need enhanced strength to wear it is pretty unusual, and the setting has always had the more conventional “wearable by a regular person, makes them stronger and tougher and faster” sorts of power armor accessible to non-Marines.

Happy with the Sisters, because it’s consistent with their look as an army; it’s not some cheesecake bullshit in an otherwise regular one, or that fuckin’ Infinity biker, the armour style is well cemented as their look. I hope for that reason they also ditch or entirely rework those horrid Eviscerator troops whose name I’ve entirely purged from my brain.

In the fluff power armour as worn by Marines is way better than the stuff other people get, with the caveat they need all the gene stuff and the Black Carapace to be able to use it. Regular people get regular, not as good power armour. On the table the effect is no different though.

So i had the day off from work and got in a game of 40k. I played versus Ultramarines with my Orks. I'm not doing a full batrep but i will give some highlights: 1. Da Jumping 25 shoota boyz 9" from a squad of intercessors and TacMarines, unloading 50 shots and 25 melee attacks, and killing only 5 tactical marines total. 2. My SAG Big Mek (with Souped up Shokka) rolling a 3 for strength with no targets other than a Razorback available, and then proceeding to kill it from full HP with 10 shots and 3 wounding hits 3. Almost killing a Primaris Lieutenant in Overwatch with Tankbusta bombs, but missing the kill by one damage. 4. Drawing Secure OBJ 5 on my first turn, and never scoring it because it was in my opponents deployment zone. 5. My Morkanaut costing me D3 victory points by whiffing 6 shots of his Kustom Mega-Zappa, plus the rest of his shooting, against my opponents warlord, who would've been the third character i needed for Assassinate. It was an awesome game filled with a lot of tension and fun moments. The kind of game that really makes me enjoy slamming hams

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy launches tomorrow for Steam, this is an expansion for Inquisitor - Martyr and adds the Tech-Adept Inquisitor as a playable class to the game, and the Eldar and the Tyranids are new enemies that you will fight. I am really excited for this expansion. Martyr is my favorite WH40K title and I have a thread for it here https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3859656

I can see the new SoB armor being more challenging to paint. I suck at doing gradient surfaces, and the previous ridges were pretty straightforward highlighting affairs. Maybe the Contrast Paints will help!

What kind of basing would work well with these guys? I'm thinking a sandy base maybe with some ruins or Eldar things since their fluff is that they're on a holiday. What do the colour matching boffins think? Mars bases look cool but I'm meh on them. Other option is just imperial sector type bases because they are also happy to steal poo poo from imperials. They're not highlighted on the cloaks and missing lots of details, but they're pretty dark even when done.

Probably a lightly coloured base theme at least to offset their dark colours. One suggestion would be to check the WHTV base painting guides but otherwise go for a Wasteland or a forest base. Also if you have any way of making Eldar ruins I'd be curious to hear how as I kind of wanted to do that for my Wraithguard bases to look similar to the Farseer base.
