I need a narrative idea for my UW FP. Looking at the Attack/Defend stream, I'm thinking some kind of corporate warfare angle ending with that contract type, where both of the factions Have their HQs side by side (two brothers or some family thing in opposing businesses?) and you end up choosing which side to assault. I need some goon spitballs as that worked great last time. What would the story be about and what's the FP choice for?

Hatfields and McCoys! Both are family businesses big in the moonshine trade (or some other illicit substance) and have a feud going back forever, maybe even including a literal hog. Or better yet, make it "War Pig" a prized Hunchback that both families claim is theirs. You start out playing both sides, with some scouting and skirmishing. Eventually, they catch-wise, and you have to pick who to support but, as a twist, some local or regional authority comes in and offers to pay big if you take down both families. Leading to, 1) side with family A and fight against a larger number of light enemies. 2) side with family B and fight a smaller number of heavy enemies. 3) side with THE MAN and fight everyone for a bigger payday. It's neither V3 or Battletech related :p I fired up BT last night to check out the new stuff and on my very first mission I forgot what the red area on the map meant and promptly lost 2 mechs to the dropship landing on them

Have "War Pig" the Hunchback or whatever, and work into the FP at some point rescuing an actual pig. Like; Client: We need you to go rescue the pig. Darius: But, we just recovered the War Pig on our last drop. Client: No, no, not War Pig. The family's prized sow. Except you know, write actual dialog and make it funny.

I had heard of the Assault mech scout mission before launch and had started prepping accordingly with jumpjets. Still had some issues, but it felt like a great challenge.

It's easy if you keep a couple of the seemingly lovely fast assault mechs around and just max out their front armor and jump jets instead of just selling them off. I did it with a Banshee, Battlemaster, Cyclops plus an Orion and it was no biggie. Doing it with slow assaults is a pain in the rear end though.

Did else anyone wake up today thinking it was the 4th and get really excited about UW? Tuesday release dates are pretty drat smart. Not rushing into it after a weekend (assuming no crazy pre-release weekend) with a couple of days to work out any emergency fixes before the weekend.

I love it too that while I gather up parts for a Grasshopper, my Shadow Hawk runs all SRMs and a small laser, five jump jets, and maximum armor, and a Commando just somehow manages to rip its arm off.

I put two of the +++ arm mods that only weigh 2 tons and each add +60 melee damage to my Battlemaster and I think I'm in love. The Banshee 3M is a somewhat better pure puncher, but is utterly worthless at anything else because its free tonnage at 95 tons is worse than a 65 tonner haha.

Fill it up with ML++s and MGs, add those arm mods and put a pilot in it with pilot 1, guts 2. EDIT: it doesn't need JJs. Just sprint around the map and then punch a hole through a mech or precision strike through the back armor.

I hate Firestarters, they might be the most dangerous enemy mech relative to what you have when you encounter them. Those evasion pips are a bitch and getting overheated by one is really brutal, and of course they always make a beeline right for you. Oh and of course they jump, just for that extra bit of "gently caress you". Meanwhile if you get a Firestarter it's not even worth it to run up and douse an AI mech in flames

In the early game salvaging Firestarters are always my priority since they're 35 tons and make decent laserboats. I always keep at least one with flamers on standby because once I start encountering mediums there's usually a HBK 4P in need of a good cooking.

They seem like they'd be decent on a desert, space, or martian map. But I'm sure I'll be told why they're not.

4 flamers isnt enough with having an ammo capacity. Mine get 10 shots and i dont mount fewer than 6 ever if i mount any

I don't know what that guy is talking about. The Firestarter is the primo light mech and if you can get one early on it'll last you all the way until you're fielding majority-heavy lances. In a light lance it's your main battle mech, while in a medium or heavy lance it's your scout/flanker/backstabber. In my first game I wound up replacing the Firestarter's role with a jumpy, punchy, master-tactician Shadowhawk once I was fielding all heavies (Black Knight ) and a Grasshopper when I was fielding Assaults. Even then, I mostly thought of the Grasshopper as "Two firestarters in a trenchcoat, standing on top of each other"

I loving love MG boats in XLRP. Between the different ammo types available, and the different +/++/+++ MGs, and the ability to turn on burst mode (double the number of shots in exchange for worse accuracy and lots of heat gen), they're just super loving nasty and flexible.
