I was really getting back into the game and getting hype for the expansion until I looked up the class changes. I main SCH.

It's got a bit of a bad wrap cause pubby plds see they're given a heal spell and just thing "OH I must be meant to top myself off" meanwhile they've got like 5 stacks of regen and a bole on them while standing in earthly star while everyone else is just wailing on the boss and they're hard casting a heal onthemselves at 95% HP. Which is extra annoying cause PLDs entire DPS rotation is about dumping all their mana in a burst window. It's 'useful' in the same way Vercure/SMN Cure is (Not really in 99% of instances) and if they want to do the "Cecil got some lovely White magic as a pld" class fantasy poo poo they should give PLD their oown versions of protect and shell.

I use Clemency to pop my own divine veil when the healers decide they're not going to. I also use Clemency to heal a boss when the healer dies in the first 30 seconds of it for standing in two bads in a row. Finally, I like to throw it out during raids to try and touch up some people that almost died from something and the healer's are a bit busy/low on mana. It's handy. Divine Veil is kinda awkward for SCH because most of our heals, well, aren't magic, and generally we're not gonna be casting any healing spells unless something has gone horribly wrong or there's a specific mechanic that needs to be shielded. I don't think anyone is saying having a self-healing option is bad, and I don't think anyone is saying Clemency is bad what people are saying is that unless it's an emergency it shouldn't be used because paladins need that MP for their damage If your healer is alive and hitting buttons there's no reason you should be wasting time and resources on doing their job
