I mean... among other things, content exists besides trials? In dungeons it's usually a lot more of a waste of time to wipe and restart the fight than to just kill the drat boss. Most bosses don't have significant enough unavoidable damage that a Paladin or Red Mage can't actually keep people alive. In solo content having a self-heal is nice. v  vIt's not the super best skill ever made but it's okay for skills to be focused on other content. I've had more than a few EXDRs where the healer dies at 20% or so and clemency is enough to sustain the tank and one or two dps for the rest of it. And it's way faster than wiping, running back, and trying again.

And it's significantly faster to just finish the fight than to wipe and redo the entire thing over when you could heal through. Hell, you can probably even do it without Clemancy if you're smart with cooldowns, it just makes it trivially easy for Paladins to Solo Zenos or whatever.

i like clemency because one time the healer and other dps went down like halfway through the last boss of ghimlyt dark so entirely through clemencies and not standing in poo poo me the blm and the pld finished the fight

the first time i played this game i thought it was so cool that my gladiator had infinite Cures because of Riot Blade. I slowly whittled down so many FATE minibosses in Thanalan with that combo. clemency captures that janky "can i punch above my weight class with this" MMO magic for me

For me, it's a core part of Paladin's identity (holy knight that can heal and protect others with their magic) in much the same way as Cover is. It's got enough situational uses and enough flavor that I wouldn't want it axed.

Shire gear is 260 and you get a ton of poetics daily just from roulettes so that's definitely an option, and you should get some level of BC materia from them too. You can also craft early SB gear, some of it might have mats that are easy to gather since its leveling gear. There's red scrip SB gear that is ilvl 300 but it obviously costs more than the HW stuff so its far less efficient, but it is an option if you prefer grinding scrips to trying to do dungeons. After that you're mostly back to the dungeon grind.. I guess the options are yellow scrip crafter gear (350) or mendacity gear (360) + whatever you win greed rolls on? Don't really know whats most efficient. So this is a whole other barrel of worms I'm opening but clemency is amazing in eureka. Sometimes healers just refuse to heal the tank, sometimes your soloing and potions aren't enough, a 10-30k heal is nothing to sneeze at when you don't have a healer.

But I'll certainly take a more solid roadmap to making it to SB starter levels, thanks for the help!
