Also, the RVN's EWE package is like 7t or so, not the 1.5t GECM. You also can't remove it from the RVN and it seems the lone modules might be vehicle only, or really rare and around 6t for just the ECM part.

Late game, the RVN is a little more of a gamble then the pure ownage when you reserve past everything. As you are outnumbered in P1 by assaults, you have to fire the RVN first (keeps 1 charge, safe in bubble) then fire someone you want the AI to focus, as it will become the only target at the time. As you fire the rest of your crew, the other three will be revealed and your back to pre-ECM exposure for a little bit. It's probably still a net gain, but losing the firepower of another Assault and limiting you maneuvering to the ECM bubble are some real chokes on quickly taking out OPFOR.

I haven't been able to play Vanilla BT ever since I got Roguetech working, I really dig all the added complexity and find the base game a little too easy in comparison. The responses about UW seem positive so I definitely want to pick it up, but can anyone who has played a lot of RT give me an opinion on if it's worth updating now and playing vanilla, or just sticking to 1.5.1 and playing RT until RT is updated? ECMs seem like a step in the right direction toward making the game feel less like "stack accuracy -> shoot -> win". I don't have enough disk space for 2 separate installs :(

I think you would still be bored with a vanilla campaign if you've been playing with mods.

I wish the DLCs were better integrated with the main campaign so that you could have the main storyline interspersed with flashpoints, and career mode difficulty options added on top for subsequent playthroughs. If the pace got slowed down somewhat, I think it could work very well. My biggest gripe with the career mode right now is that you basically grind side missions the entire time, while flashpoints themselves have little in terms of strategic decision making outside of a selection in the chat dialogue.

Alternatively, make each flashpoint have a map like MW4 campaign that you do missions on so there is at least some element of "OK, I see what's going on," and if you have to make a choice the consequences are clearly spelled out to you. It might make the universe feel a little bit bigger too.

That being said, I really do enjoy this game and I sank tons of hours into it.

Active Probe is AoE Sensor Lock plus, strips Stealth Charges, and shuts down ECM for "a short time." So if the AI mechs had too many of them, ECM would be useless for players.

Do any stock mechs aside from the Raven even carry BAP? I'm pretty sure the answer is "no" if they're going with stock 3025-ish configs.

So if the counter for ECM is active probe, then the AI has no counter for ECM in higher level contracts.

Its only 1.5 tons, and it grants your mech effective invulnerability at range until you shoot. Why wouldn't you take it on every mech, especially at the higher tonnages?

An ECM Suite is 6 tons in this game. It's not a Guardian, it's an older, shittier model.

We have the tools, we have the talent!

So yeah, I got a very satisfying mission. The deal was that there were a pair of Assault Mechs on the way to attack each other, and your employer wants you to kill them both. This came up super early in the game for me, when the heaviest things I had were a Vindy and Blackjack, both of which were starter 'mechs. So I show up with my Vindy, a Commando, and a couple of Locusts. The Canopians have a Victor, an Urby, a Spider, and a Locust, while the Local Government(!!!) had a King Crab and three Locusts. It was complicated maneuvering around to keep out of sight while they shot each other up, but man was it worth it. In the end, I lost both Locusts (with mech destruction enabled), but I had my Vindy on top of a hill trying to shave off the King Crab pilot's last wound with an SRM-6 with the Crab literally reduced to one leg, the center torso, and the head....and it worked! Of course I'm also running empty 'mechs so equipping the drat thing was a series of dubious compromises, but still, being in month three with a King Crab? Hell, yeah!

Because you get the same benefit with it on just one mech, and that gives your other mechs extra tons of armour or weapons or ammo?

Like, it's the same reason you don't run max jump jets on every single mech, or so many heatsinks that you're heat-neutral, or bring 40 turns of AC/20 ammo.

If you aren't perpetually bouncing your close range assault mechs in circles around the enemy you just don't understand style. The only thing that doesn't get full jjs is your missile bombardment mech if you run one

The game seems more unstable than it was previously. I've replayed a base defence mission a few times and gotten the same crash every time. Also, I've noticed that most escort missions are unwinnable now because the APCs will pause in the middle of their route and then skip their turns forever. Are these bugs a new thing? I haven't played since the DLCs were released.

You have to have a mech close to the convoy in order for it to move. There is an icon that pops up somewhere when you are in range.

I've had occasional crashes, usually when in transition from negotiating/accepting the contract and setting up my Lance, to going to the Leopard making the drop. But it just takes a quick restart of the program and it works again. It doesn't happen nearly as often as before the last DLC, but it still happens.
