the idea of a counterculture is boomer self-important bullshit "HEH, im not like YOU people, I have my OWN culture!". if they kept it to themselves it wouldn't be a culture. they must broadcast their membership so they will come up with common iconography and language that they can use to identify themselves to others. this is called marketing.

i think with cyberpunk 2077 a lot of people have hyped themselves up to expect something that the game will never be able to deliver. it's going to nail the aesthetic and probably little else. if you want a deep, nuanced story just read some gibson or whatever. this will just be a video game, hopefully it will be fun.
