Scruffpuff posted:I wonder how many of Amazon's internal failures and missteps with Lumberyard are actually a direct or indirect result of working with CIG. ...probably not many of them, except indirectly. Before Lumberyard came along, CIG had already poached and/or ruined and/or burned out a lot of ex-CryTek engineers who, one would hope, knew how CryEngine worked, which meant that Amazon probably didn't have much of a pool of expertise to hire from, and consequently their teams had no one to turn to when they got stuck. And CIG's not likely to be of any help in that department. I mean, CryTek had a clause in their deal with CIG that CIG had to provide them with any bugfixes they stumbled across and needed a lawsuit to even pry that much out of 'em; Amazon doesn't even have that. (Not that there'd be any reason to trust a "fix" that came from CIG, but still.)

Trilobite posted:(Not that there'd be any reason to trust a "fix" that came from CIG, but still.) Oh? Let me introduce you to Chris Roberts, a guy who once commissioned other programmers to make a shooty game in the late 80s, and sat down with them himself from time to time to write "code" they'd revert. He's going to save gaming and also he's going to save Amazon.

It'll probably be just like all the other poo poo Amazon craps out that isn't instantly profitable. Some shoestring team will limp it along with updates. Case in point, AWS Glue just released python 3 support two weeks ago!

It would explain a lot about why all the planets are static in their positions around the sun, and also super far apart for no discernible reason. But then CIG just being terminally bad at everything is also a good explanation for those things.

Agony Aunt posted:What i really don't want is for SC to fail because of a third party. I don't want the hardcore backers to have an excuse as to why it failed other than CR himself. I don't think they will fail (straight away) even if Amazon shuts down lumberyard. I could imagine CIG starting a new fundraising campaign to "save the dream." If anything there will be more salt/lulz if CIG is forced to deal with the discontinuation of lumberyard.

While I'm correcting facts horse, CR he hasn't pissed up 250 million it's over 300 with investment and tax credits, Forbes has spoken stop rounding down. Well call it 295 million the mansion is the only tangible thing that will remain when this all packs in.

It is just loving Karma that one of the arguments CIG has stated for the switch from CryEngine to Lumberyard was their concern that CryTek could go bankrupt and stop supporting the engine.

He will be broke in less than two years after CIG is closed. He is very arrogant, he will just believe more money will turn up for him. There is no doubt that he was personal rich (million's) after EA bought Origin Software yet I don't believe for a second he had any substantial amount left by the time he put out the Kickstarter video - I'm sure it was all way long gone. He is very poo poo with money - just look at this project - currently looks like something that was made for about 8 million over two years but with Chris Roberts involved, it's 250 million plus over seven plus years. To be fair, that time and money has gone on two games, one of which we have not seen but I doubt it looks like a 200 million plus game - probably once again like another 10 million dollar game (minus the Hollywood stars)
