We actually do have a document with all gear used on the album.

quote:

INSTRUMENTS:

strings - gibson les paul, fender telecaster, fano jm6, yamaha c40 classical guitar, warwick rockbass corvette, fender jazz bass, fender mustang bass, hora irish bouzouki.

keys - wurlitzer 206a electric piano, george steck baby grand piano, critter & guitari pocket piano, korg ms-20, moog sub 37, sequential circuits prophet-6, magnus chord organ.

amplifiers - ampeg b-15n, matchless spitfire 15, orange thunderverb 50, star super nova.

percussion - taped-up office drum kit, paiste & zildjian cymbals.

effects - black arts toneworks coven, fulltone ocd, moog minifooger delay, mxr analog chorus, strymon deco.

RECORDING GEAR:

microphones - aea r88, audio technica at-4033, beyerdynamic m160, neumann u87 clone (diy), oktava mk012, sennheiser 409, sennheiser e906, shure sm-58.

interfaces - focusrite saffire pro 40, focusrite liquid saffire 56, apogee duet.

software - logic pro x, waves plugins, celemony melodyne, oeksound soothe, valhalla vintage verb.

Most of the bass you hear on the album is me playing that Warwick. The Fender basses were basically used as additional guitars to add some oomph to some of the loud parts. Most if not all of the guitar and bass tracking is done with direct input into logic. The baby grand belongs to this cool church in Cincinnati.

Everything sounds killer. Today I’m hearing some really interesting layers and depth in the music. Sometimes I can drift off with long songs but you’re all doing it well. I still don’t know what the key to that is other than making 100% sure you’ve got awesome riffs/grooves/melodies locked in alongside a great sounding group of instruments.

Grindcore has a couple of different iterations that go with it, so I'm assuming you got the much more punkish side of things. If the ADHD quality of that type doesn't do it for you then I suggest you try out bands like Vermin Womb, Cretin, Repulsion, Insect Warfare, Languish, later Agoraphobic Nosebleed, or Terrorizer. Those ones usually have a mixture of death metal, thrash, or black metal that really help compliment the aggressive and fast nature of grindcore.

I :goonmet: Kozmonaut at Copenhell! We had comparable beards and good times were had.

Did anyone else go?

Girlfriends good friend died saturday morning, so I had a lot of logistics cropping up, but I did get to see:

Refused (Hell yes, still good! Lead singer had a ten minute rant about how feminism was necessary and capitalism was a crock of poo poo, in front of some of the people who need it the most :getin: )

While She Sleeps (Decent metalcore, but that never really worked for me. I later met the lead singer, who was creeped out by my gig as a fortune teller. He spoke with such a weird accent that I thought he was swedish but turns out he's just from Sheffield)

Municipal Waste (only heard one song, fortunately it was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSXCogYvQlw )

1000Mods (Very nice if you like stoner sailing in effects!)

Orange Goblin (always good, they didn't seem completely committed this time)

Amon Amarth (sceneshow and banter was dumb, they're going full on pandering viking tripe to people who wouldn't know a viking if one bit them in the rear end. However, the new songs were dece and it's swedish death metal, so who am I to complain?)

Dimmu Borgir (second time I saw the new songs, which are surprisingly good!)

Rob Zombie (Played the exact same set as on their last tour, or so it seemed. Still, amazing live band.)

And I managed to catch (subtracting the bands where I only watched a song or two):

Katatonia - Still sad as balls, still rules.

Immolation - Of course they ruled. They've always ruled. They will always rule.

Demons & Wizards - Hansi was in great form and Jon didn't get to spout any political bullshit. Still love their songs so. loving. Much.

Skindred - Ragga metal is fun concept that doesn't really translate well to albums. But Benji is one hell of a showman when they play live, and they turned it into an amazing party.

Tool sucked.

Vltimas - Good, but somehow feels a little bit less than the sum of its parts.

Unleashed - Forget Amon Amarth, these are the real vikings of this lineup. Good ol' Johnny still has it.

Baest - Was Baest, as they've been every time I've seen them. Solid Swedish-style death metal, fun but not revolutionary.

Slægt - Really blew me away this time. I've seen them a bunch of times before, and this was by far their best concert so far.

Eluveitie - Sort of meh on albums, great fun live. Folksy melodeath just works for me.

Living Colour - Eh, they should have give up decades ago. Very little energy, no real conviction.

Glenn Hughes - Holy poo poo. For the sheer amount of Colombian snow that man has put away, I'm amazed he's still alive, never mind still able to hit all the high notes, even going over the top and adding crazy high notes to songs that didn't have them before. Still not my favorite Deep Purple lead singer, but he's good.

Municipal Waste - Absolutely loving ruled. Cowabunga thrash, beer, crazy moshing, probably some torn and bleeding eardrums. Perfect.

The Psyke Project - Absolutely legendary Danish blackened hardcore band, reunited just this once for a special show, after they called it quits 5 years ago. It was mindblowingly good.

Now I'm absolutely spent, nursing the mother of all hangovers. Worth it.

Eh, it was a breath of fresh air on Copenhell, where it's pretty dangerous to go out unattended if you're a woman that somebody wants to grope - and if you think The Shape of Punk to Come is a poo poo album, then I'm sorry you have a massive case of being square.
