I liked the Doma half of Stormblood a hell of a lot more than Ala Mhigo. The characters were way more interesting -- Hien, Gosetsu, Yotsuyu, all the Kugane folk and the Kojin and Namazu etc etc etc, versus who? Fuckin Lyse???? :barf:

Doma also has beautiful landscapes and even an underwater zone (i love those) whereas gyr abania is three identical looking lovely desert zones that are just depressing to be in.

That's just it though. It is like that because it was made like that. They could've done something cool with it, but didn't nearly as much as they might've.

I agree though, I like doma a lot more, aesthaetically, than gyr abania. But why? If gyr abania is the middle east or caucasus or something, there're some beautiful areas there to be inspired by.

Dumb question, but where do I go for gear outside the MSQ? I just finished with the post ARR stuff and am finally in Ishgard, but I'm horribly overleveled. I tried to do my job (monk) quests but I'm getting my poo poo pushed in at the group fight for the level 56 quest. I assume it has something to do with the fact that I'm in a mix of 120 and 110 gear. Do I just leave it until I'm closer to 140?

Generally it's marketboard or dungeons, but you need to catch up on MSQ before the good dungeons open up.

Try not to buy normal quality vendor gear unless it's a huge upgrade. They're statted very poorly for the ilevel.

I will say that Gyr Abania looks beautiful in the concept art and with a good Reshade/Stormshade. A fair increase to color vibrance makes the vegetation pop, and other details become more apparent, like the rock striations in the upper tier of The Peaks. It just didn't translate super well to the render and the somewhat muted palette in the base engine.

Plus the team has done desolate well. The Burn is a great example.

Sorry to keep asking dumbass questions in here, but I have more:

I have a lvl 31 archer on Excalibur from years ago, but I wanted to start over since I don't remember the story or how to play or anything like that. Since Excal is congested and I can't make another character there, I thought it might be a better idea to just change to the class I want and level it to 30 and pick up the main story from that point. Would this be a total pain in the rear end? I feel like I burnt out in vanilla because I had to switch to an alt-class and level it to get to bard, but I assume that's a lot easier now?

How bad is the grind from 1-30ish if you're just doing fates and sidequests and whatever?

1-16(?) sucks, before you can run leveling duty roulette. A healer friend can help get through the worst of it, though. I should be on tonight, feel free to friend/message Telum Caeli and I'll come help; or if we're not on at the same time, I'd imagine another goon could help, especially if you're in a goon FC.

Basically a healer who's not in your party puts a shield/regen on you, then you hit every mob nearby. They'll all aggro onto the healer instead, because of the healing, then the healer AoEs them to death and you get a huge chain bonus, and you can do it to mobs well above your level.

No, the Garlean Empire was founded by Elidibus posing as Solus. The Garlean people have been around for a much longer time.

Their Empire was started by an Ascian, but the race of 3-eyed magic-less scrubs existed before that.

There was an obligation to wrap up Ala Mhigo affairs, but the writers just wanted to get it over with so they could move on.

On one hand, I feel like Ala Mhigo got shafted, on the other hand, Ala Mhigo kinda sucks anyway?

The Crystarium is a university built around it and nothing else in the area looks even remotely like it. The Crystal Tower was built to contact and travel to other shards, and from that launch trailer time between the shards is apparently pretty messy. It's possible it's actually our crystal tower from the future after Graha Tia wakes up out of stasis and sees everything has gone wrong.

This is Canada. It snows nine months of the year, and hails the other three.

So on the subject of being emoted at all the time, I revel in it because usually I'll come back from an MSQ cutscene to see "Bill Rando weeps before you"/"Bill Rando is taken aback by you" or something to that effect in chat. Reason being? I'm a WHM dressed like my favourite character from FFXIV, Edda from Tam-Tara Hard.

This also resulted in the absolutely beautiful recreation of the final cutscene of the Corpse Groom cutscene at the end of HW

tbh this blindsided me

I thought the goal was just to cause a distraction but no we went from 0 to liberation in the blink of an eye

and then we went home and did the same for ala mhigo

the fact that it only worked because zenos didn’t give a gently caress made sense but also never really sat well with me

Stormblood was a mess plotwise that largely worked because some of the characters were salvage. And I'm a sap and infatuated by Yotsuyu and thus she was my favorite character. :v:

Yeah basically none of the plot beats felt 'earned'. We didn't really struggle to liberate them, they were just...laughably easy to save. We didn't have an antagonist he was just a Gary Stu who jobs us because the story says he does, not because of any actual competence. Fordola was a better antagonist, or even the gross gay comic relief villain who's tortured into becoming a flesh robot.

I am really hoping that with the smaller focus and more esoteric concept ShB works out better, since HW was awesome and similarly smaller in scope.
