Almost Smart posted:I'm not sure it matters how badly Biden is doing tonight; Trump fell just short of making GBS threads himself on the stage during his debates, and he coasted by on his celebrity status and name recognition. Biden will probably do the same, especially when there too many candidates for most people to name at the moment. I imagine his lead will drop precipitously by the time we get down to like the top 8 candidates or so though. But Trump making GBS threads himself was his thing. The narrative on Biden all along has been "he'll wilt in the debates" and he's getting his rear end kicked in the first debate. That's not good for him. He's not dead, but he hopefully had that "frontrunner" shine knocked off him and there will be blood in the water for the next debate.

And Trump shat all over them. Remember Jeb! Pathetic high-five? Biden on the other hand looks weak as gently caress. If he survives this with a strong lead then Democrats are hosed.

He's doing well, most of the stage is promoting his policies and he's high enough in the race at this point that he's best off not making a mistake and let Biden take all of the heat. The first goal is to shank Biden and Kamala and the also rans are taking care of that.

The GI Bill, Social Security, the New Deal were all great for the country as a whole but their implements had disparate impacts on white communities vs. black communities. I worry, given some of his statements, that he will pay lip service to helping these communities but won't actually address the institutional issues or just go the only thing that matters is economic justice. The thing is that those were deliberately exclusionary. Do you think Bernie will deliberately excluse vulnerable populations, and if so, why.

For Sanders the debates are mostly going to be about removing Biden as a concern for the time being. If Biden goes down and the establishment support re-unifies around someone else (like Harris or Warren), then it will be more of a priority for him to persuade undecided people. I think that, in the primary itself, it's mostly going to come down to whether Sanders can mobilize enough younger* people to vote (and this time around he'll have a much stronger organization and more funds). If he can, he'll probably win - neither Harris nor Warren have significant support among younger people. If he can't, I honestly think he'll probably loses. I don't believe he'll be able to convince most older Democrats, who generally select candidates based upon a very weird interpretation of electability. * using the very loose definition of "young" of <40
