Wht/Mnk/Tim/MK went ok - really dragged on at points where elemental weaknesses didn't play out pre Holy/FlareBlade/Meteor but at worst it was slow and steady.

Run 3 is, so far, Knight/Red/Geomancer which. Uh. Means I'm getting a lot of the crap out of the way? Means I *should* be ok for runs 4 and 5 using what's left - Black and Thief for Wind, Summ for Water, Ninja, Beast and Bard for Fire.

Earth still has Dragoon, Sam and Dancer...none of them really save run 3!

If it were just this party I'd probably go with Dancer and write it off as a mildly unpleasant experience, but you should plan ahead. What do you have left for the next two runs, and how do you minimize the total unpleasantness?

Hit it until it's not a problem anymore
Well, just finished FF5 for the first time ever in the fiesta. I had played it originally when it came out on psx but stopped at W2 exadeath because I didn't want to grind abilities to beat him. Figured the fiesta would cut down on the grinding and make me think.

NOPE

My party was Knight/Summoner/Ninja/Chemist. There are possibly parties that can get more OP through shennanigans, but these guys were brainlessly powerful.

Solo knight cruises to Water by holding A, then you use rod boosted summons until Fire, then rod boosted scrolls through earth, then you get chemist. I ground for rings on the black flames, and after that used smoke to escape non-mandatory battles for W2 and W3.

I could just win every boss battle by setting up the first turn then holding A and the Fast Forward button. I only actually used the chemist abilities five times, he was mostly a budget summoner. The 5 times were drain kissing melisune because I couldn't be bothered with their gimmick, death potion on twintania because I couldn't bother to play around their counter gimmick, and then the 3 end bosses.

Beserk/Cover shennanigans on Omega

Berserk/Blind/Golem on Shinryu because it was too annoying to set up cover with the crystal dragons

And finally Elemental Power/Goliath on NED for the Leviathan swag while I was trying to steal that second Ragnarok.

Including this Earth, the nine left are;
Thief, Black
Summoner
Bard, Ninja, Beastmaster
Samurai, Dancer, Dragoon

In a perfect world I'd go
Thief/Summ/Beast/Drag and Black/Bard/Nin/Dancer - the first lets me pretend Dragoon is good by coasting on a stolen spear and then Genji while Summoner and Beast do all the work, and then the latter gives me Sing and Black-boosted Throw.

Doesn't really matter. Your team will easily make it through the game with either class. I guess it depends on whether you'd like an easier time against the Crystals (Samurai) or a possible shot at Omega (Dancer).

Just finished World 1 in my fourth run. This time my party is Geomancer/Chemist/Dragoon/Ninja. For once, the Geomancer is the important one, since their fat Magic stat is a great candidate for both !Mix and !Throw (not to mention DUAL BELLS). Dragoon can be a !Mix bot that has an Aegis Shield, that's all the relevance Dragoon is allowed to have.

Magic hitting is entirely a function of spell hit rate, level of target and caster, and magic evasion.

I wrote the book on magic evasion so I hope I know what I mean.

Toad has an 80% hit rate, is the same level as himself, and the Toad status negates magic evasion.... but Garula didn't have any anyway.

So it just has the 80% chance to hit.

Run 2 down. Four black mages for my solo job run of the year and it was mostly easy. I forgot to buy a flame ring in world 1 for the crystals so I unfortunately had to game genie it in. Nothing else was really that bad at all - black mage is a killer job.

Grinding that first reflect ring sucked, though.

Level 28 all around, so I don't think it qualifies for any toxxes.

Not sure if this is different enough to consider it another optional cutscene rather than a permutation of a cutscene, but you can also go to Surgate after you get the Submarine to get slightly different dialogue.

(Lenna getting real sick of the wishy-washiness)

Run 3 down! This one had some rough spots, Monk early on had to deal with a painful Liquid Flame/Byblos (Beastmaster was my fourth). Barehanded inheriting 24 STR (the most) was nice but Monk, for having so much HP, is really fragile by itself and I didn't get nearly enough levels for it to feel any good. Not much synergy and Thief in addition really doubled down on that "Ugh, you're dead again?" feeling. IMO Beastmaster is one of those super-useful classes where dealing with it is like repeatedly stubbing your toe over and over again through the whole game and it's hindered that you get Catch as its last ability. I like Samurai quite a lot (dodging, shielding, criting, money-throwing, hasteing, initiative, insta-killer) but I didn't get to use !Iainuki much (it's an 850 ABP investment after all)!

First time I've ever done Calm locking! It took awhile to get correctly and oh boy does it take forever to get enough crits with Barehanded or Katanas. I winged it on Katanas (Fist's crits are 8% twice btw) but I made the mistake of thinking that the critical rate was the same for each katana until I looked it up afterwards (whoops!).

The ol' Mirage Vest glitch technically, with reflecting Mammon and also using Galajelly (I think I used Mythril Knife or something from the back row to not kill it). With Samurai (both extra evasion and Masamune Haste meaning Elven Mantle) and Blind that meant I was in no danger of messing this one up, although it was pretty frustrating having to set everything up. A common complaint with Beastmaster. Oh, also had Dragon's Whiskers which meant it took little time (fun fact, it uses the Bows Strong vs. Creature formula which also halves Shinryu's 20% evasion along with the Strong vs bonus).

This was... fairly bad. After a few wipes I decided to swap jobs around due to ABP gaps and catch some Dragon Aevises (thanks Control). I had set up a Crystelle catch for Mighty Guard earlier which was also something of a nightmare, made worse with Monk's countering. Wiped a couple more times until I switched to Zeninage/Magic Lamp and more Elixirs and Gold Needles/Phoenix Downs than I figured I'd need. Just not enough HP and armor I think (well, for 3/4 of my party) w/ HP+30% not being very reasonable or cheap.
