You don't have to be right. You just have to have a phone. Loved their little unhappy New York vignettes and the Sonic rampage.

The_Doctor posted:Rewatched the White Rice episode last night, and christ, that wanders far too close to being out and out racism. The get out of Francine having Asian parents isn’t actually the get out the show thinks it is. I mean, isn't that the "meta" of the episode? As far as I can recall, her show doesn't make it past a single episode because it's offensive garbage. Edit: Re: The Sonic Bullying scenes. Can someone make a gif of them jumping on the car while Francine does the monkey and Jeff eats taters? That was a really great and loopable image

Well? Does anybody know? People can't even pin down just exactly where or even when simpsons turned bad so it's probably equally a mystery why this is still so fresh.

Nichael posted:The Simpsons got noticeably worse in season 10. I dunno I remember there being a stretch of somewhat mediocre episodes that happened after Hayley and Jeff got married(notably Jeff basically isn't in most of them, leading to my theory that they were leftover scripts from earlier seasons that they dug out so they could be lazy), and some of the episodes during the period where Jeff was in space weren't all that great either Also they need to apply the lesson they learned with Hayley to Steve already, that lesson being that dating plots in animated sitcoms get tired and worn out after about 10 to 20 uses*, so after a while you should just have the character get a semi permanent significant other, they did it with Hayley(even if they did loophole it for a while with the whole Jeff In Space arc), and they need to do it with Steve as well *which makes it all the worse that they've done it with Steve somewhere between 40 and 60 times drrockso20 fucked around with this message at 11:34 on Jul 3, 2019 |

I'm really glad that the TBS seasons have refrained from the well of "Steve's dating plots" and that the few we still get have been really good. I'm also happy that the writers have not been gun-shy about writing for Jeff in the past season or so; for the longest time, it felt like they weren't able to fit him into the family dynamic ever since the marriage.

Milo and POTUS posted:Well? Does anybody know? It's a few things, I think. - Roger is one of the best TV characters ever. Capable of doing anything, even his "boring" characters are hilarious because they mock the sadness of suburban American life. - All the characters are well-developed. I think I heard somewhere that this show picked up a bunch of writers from the cancellation of another animated show, like Futurama or Family Guy, and it just retained them forever. The writers seem to actually remember nuances to the characters that they can play with. Nothing in the Simpsons has stuck the last 18 years; it's like most of the writers for the Simpsons stopped watching the Simpsons in Season 12 like everyone else. - Economy of storytelling. This show gets right to it in Act 1, taking the harder path of making jokes out of a naturally evolving story rather than making Act 1 a separate story. Like, the best part of this episode was their lives in New York. If the Simpsons were telling the same story, the episode would have ended with the family pacifying a mob by magically knowing Stomp because it would have spent Act 1 dicking around on a random sidenote like "What if Homer owned a cell phone kiosk at the mall?"

That entire episode is completely nonsensical and it's great. There's more, but you get my point.

Considering Disney now owns them, I figure Family Guy is either going to be quietly canceled as soon as possible(cause they've made way too many direct attacks at both Disney as a company, and Walt Disney as a person for them to be comfortable supporting it as an ongoing production), or they'll sell it off to someone else as soon as possible
