For some reason Brent Spiner and some of the cast didn't like it or the script, but I thought it was actually quite a good Moby Dick IN SPAAAAACE kind of episode.

The CE was an interesting creature because it's first appearance with Lore primes you to think it's directly malevolent, but then it's next appearance makes you realise that it was just a force of nature that Lore was manipulating. It was a victim of Lore just like the colonists that it devoured were, it just took a long time for the universe to catch up with it (because Lore luring it to his birthplace put it in Dr Mar's crosshairs in the first place)

Do people generally agree or disagree that Discovery and Enterprise are better than Voyager?

Star Trek has always been, at its best, Moral Quandary: The Series.

We introduce a problem with two sides. We spend an hour debating the two sides and throwing monkey wrenches into the works, and then we have a tough decision to make.

For the past fifteen years, Star Trek's only moral quandary it seems to want to take on is Should We Be Evil. That sucks. But in addition to that, the answer keeps coming out, post-DS9, "yes. Yes, we should be evil" with a coda of "but this was for the right reasons."

That's the opposite of what I want from Star Trek and it's why I'm glad I discovered Doctor Who, because while that show falls flat on its face a lot in trying to show people doing their best to battle cynicism and pessimism, at least it's trying.

I'm downright positive on Enterprise at this point, at least in parts, compared to Disco and Voyager.

Enterprise is the worst Star Trek show by loving leagues. Its only redeeming feature is it is purestrain fanservice for straight white men, which is only a redeeming feature to straight white men. If it were a person it would have voted for George W Bush, twice, but lied about that to its wife.

Yes. It's basically 24 In Space with less violence.

Are there any Star Trek episodes anyone has seen once and will only ever see once?

For me it's gotta be TNG Sub Rosa. VOY Threshold is the worse episode but far too enjoyable not to rewatch.

The answer is usually "no, we shouldn't be evil," but it usually comes as a half-assed five-minute coda to hours of story in which everyone gets evil.

Some original series episodes. To this day, actually, I've seen all the 90's series numerous times but still haven't made it through TOS.

This isn't counting Discovery, which I have a hard time envisioning myself ever watching a second time.

Yeah. Voyager had more good episodes I'd say but it ran twice as long. Enterprise got cut off right when it finally figured out what it was and started being consistently good.

Thanks(?) to BBC reruns I've probably seen a fair chunk of, if not all, the notable episodes from the three main series which is unfortunate in and of itself because more than a bit of that was Voyager. That said I always skip three episodes whenever I rewatch series - Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, Sub Rosa and The Muse. I'm bad at lists but I'd probably reliably put those three at the top of worst Trek, though Battlefield is more agonizing than aggressively, offensively bad.

Other stuff I tend to waffle on between rewatches. I didn't watch a lot of bubble episodes my most recent time through DS9, basically only hitting Garak, Dukat and a few scattered good ones.

Miri, And The Children Shall Lead, Turnabout Intruder, The Last Outpost, The Child, O’Brien Yells at Cloud, The Muse, and the one where Hoshi is trapped with the lonely creepy alien are all just excruciating and I always skip them on rewatches.

I’d guess I’ve seen like 50% of Voyager episodes once only. That’s probably never gonna change either, there’s just so many that had nothing going on.

I can’t imagine rewatching any Disco episode with maybe one or two exceptions. Most of them don’t have any value as standalone episodes, and/or suck out loud.

I had only seen Enterprise seasons 1 and 2 once until last year, when I masochistically plowed through them again. It wasn’t worth the time I spent on it. It’s an awful show that frequently reduced me to rage with its boring plots, poo poo writing, floppy acting and loathsome smug attitude.

Does remind me that Chakotay is apparently supposed to be loving Olmec, a culture that died out 3000 years before Trek takes place?
