"Free" tuition - on the backs of all taxpayers. It's one thing to pay taxes to support your local school district, because it has an immediate impact on property values. But forcing the millions of Americans without college students to support a program that still has not provided information on how staff and professionals would be paid in the face of no income is ludicrous. Biden has far and away the best chance, and his ideas for health care don't impact the employment of millions of Americans. If the Dems are to win in 2020, they will have to have a moderate candidate.

Only if they want to suffer less, which, oh yeah, is the whole point of a doctor, therapist, or spiritual advocate If sickness is all in our mind and our minds can be changed by miracles, you might assume that miracles can cure disease. “Sometimes a miracle is a change in material conditions, such as physical healing,” Williamson writes in “A Return to Love.” "At other times, it is a psychological or emotional change.” This is the bait-and-switch at the heart of Williamson’s teachings. Maybe you’ll get well, or maybe you’ll feel better about being sick, but either way, she'll get your money. Many of Williamson’s early fans were gay men living with AIDS, and her theology seemed to promise the potential for miraculous healing. She even claimed that attending her spiritual support groups could prolong the lives of AIDS patients.

mormonpartyboat posted:they should get with the times and ride an escalator down, instead~ the problem with that is that it constrains and you don't get maneuverability to adapt or change, there's no malleability. Some positions of course you will have to stay on because they insist on pushing back on them and try other things that keep blowing up while adamantly refusing to go forward, such as M4A so the insanity keeps perpetuating and you keep hammering the same point over and over so the "debate and discussion" aspect doesn't go anywhere other than vindication, which is the problem with the Self, it also isn't just fear, its the irresponsible self-assured "i know how the world works, actually" intellectual vanity that has been repeatedly dismissive. No, you don't know how the world works, none of us do. What we do know, is what parts of a system can work and what can be done to improve it, but you keep paving ways for bad faith actors to exploit and break it and you get mad and huffy at people who tried to warn you and have proposed solutions because it embarrasses you, on a personal level which ascribes to a monumental ego rather than admitting the mistake and remedying it. Either that or you're straight up collaborators because there is a pattern of abuse here. That's why neoliberals piss me off. To expand on saying that Trump is actually a neoliberal, because he is, he cozied up to fascists and then realized the addiction of their genuine adulation for his diap filling strong man antics is the only shred of vindication he can hold onto that is palpable. Neoliberals enabled Trump and are 100% complicit. The man was a identified democrat and then weathervaned it because the irony of neoliberals continuously dismissing people who keep pushing people away, pushed the wrong guy away and pushed the wrong buttons this time in this vast labyrinthine system of thirdwayist grift machine. The very fact that Biden gets huffy about morality, which is the only veneer of his campaign as an excuse to power grab once again for some bizarre asinine reason (its to protect class interests and then fascism takes over when it breaks down) is nothing but the rich having interfactional warfare at the height of "Russiagate" and Epstein with each other and we're all spectators who think we're participants in an ideological battle of identity and branding , rather than class. That's why identifying yourself as a neoliberal or a conservative is just picking a sports team, it's performative and makes you feel temporarily good about your ideologues, and then you get to hem haw about your draft pick of bland uninspired politicians as if you are a carefully informed voter, but you are joking yourself and avoiding the reality of a broken system and it terrifies you as much as change does because of the ego of Self, and how capitalism has continuously and successfully perpetuated and violated your identity system, with the freedom of choice as long as you have a wallet to pull that dollar out (access to) and pick the limited choice only provided by the vendors that handpicked the merchandise in the vending machine, so you end up resigning to yourself because the identity you created out of the Self is as real as the plastic you buy, and in that resignation you smugly lash out with "heh, the system has always been like this, you can't change it." as if again, you know how the world works because its the only thing you've ever known and actualized in your perspective and its hard to ever see anything outside the box. People want to vote for Warren, that's fine if you want to delay the inevitable. Responsible capitalism worked so well (for whites) until they deregulated it (for whites), so we'll be back to square one soon enough

Eliminating the profit motive from private insurance and making everything free for consumers at point of sale is a lot easier to conceptualize then nationalizing an international industry with like $1T+ combined market cap. And yet even single payer isn't getting a ton of traction, so why waste time pondering on policies that are even further away from happening? Why would anyone believe it's a STEMlord handout? No one on the real medicine side objects to mental health care, or therapy or whatever you're pretending they're saying. What they ARE saying is that having positive thoughts will never, ever, treat a disease. It will only make someone feel better for a short period of time. Medication, on the other hand, will in fact treat people, even without therapy and mental health care! Of course that medication is more effective in concert with therapy and mental health care, but weighing the two, if I had to choose one it's medication every time.

You end up with folks who just equate "modern medicine" with "BiG pHaRmA" and don't bother to understand that most of the research pipeline is already publicly funded (incidentally, this is why anti-vaxxers constantly scream about THE CDC OWNS PATENTZ AND ARE MAKING MONIES) and don't separate the assholes in sales/management/advertising with the folks doing actual research and development. Or they're literally part of a snake oil MLM of some sort. What we really need is to restore (and massively increase) funding of the NIH, NSF and similar research organizations and massively expand programs such as AmeriCorps to staff these labs. We have poo poo tons of biological science majors that graduate every year that could be working for the public good under the direction of folks who are working on more advanced degrees or have enough experience to supervise the whole project. The reason I think this is so important is that nationalizing this will result in massive savings to the public (obviously) and will also direct actual money to research in the first place, rather than patent-extending bullshit or marketing. It's not the first thing that needs to be done, but it's a drat important pillar if you want a robust system that actually meets the needs of the people rather than shareholders.
