i buy that at least some of the branded stuff from the biggest AE-promoted stores is legit / the same product you'd get domestically, b/c the pricing is often basically the same as you get on amazon, at least for the 3m stuff i looked at, anyhow. saving like $3 on a respirator is almost never gonna justify waiting an extra month+ for shipping, so i figure the angle's a little different from the assumed "pay as little as possible"
i've run into a weird niche of store, generally w all the store splash page copy in cyrillic, whose sole purpose seems to be acting as a reputable vendor for types of goods that are (one assumes) difficult to acquire in legit non-knockoff versions, and i can see PPE being a p likely example of that. the appeal isnt savings, its "being a trustworthy 3M distributor who ships cheaply to russia, whose respirator filters will definitely, for sure, take-it-to-the-bank reliably filter out the claimed volatile organic gases + vapours, thereby preventing you and your boys from passing out and asphyxiating when you have to go clear roots out of vasily's hog lagoon intake", or sth to that effect

I got intrigued by ultracheap Chifi vacuum tube preamplifiers, so I got one of these.

I put it between my PC and a decent Yamaha amp feeding a pair of KEF tower speakers and an old sub.
I had zero expectations going in--I mean a $36 toy couldn't possibly make a huge difference, I thought.
I was pleasantly blown away to discover this thing gives you a pretty good taste of tube sound.
Music I'd been listening to over decades came alive with much better definition of different instruments and voices.
The overall sound became thicker, more robust, and yet much more spacier. Just made for much more satisfying listening.

I decided I needed to investigate a little more, and after a lot of study, came to understand that one could buy tube preamps pretty cheaply.
(Tube amplifiers are another story altogether, but I couldn't justify dropping over $500 just to get my foot in the door.)

I settled on this.

Apparently, this type of circuit (Shigeru Wada) is the higher end of the consumer market, so that's what I went with.
This circuit's available in basically four different models from a ton of brands.
I bought the second cheapest grade.
This one cost me around $210 ($45 in shipping).
The most expensive grade's around $500, but the hilariously simple circuitry is all the same across all four grades, as are the six tubes used.
(Of course, like all things audio, one can easily drop a whole bunch more money.)

It sounds absolutely gorgeous. It's what I wrote about the little guy above, but much, much better.
Probably the best buy I've made in decades to make music sound better.
I keep discovering things in music that've been familiar for a long time.
